Award-winning filmmaker, counter-culture documentarian and screen innovator, Ondi Timoner, will be disrupting the SCREEN FOREVER conference as special guest international keynote speaker.
Screen Producers Australia is thrilled to confirm that Ondi Timoner, founder of Interloper Films, will be leading the 2017 conference line-up of transformative and inspirational international keynote speakers for the Australian screen industry's premiere destination for the business of screen production creativity, SCREEN FOREVER.
The dual Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize-winning director, will address the Australian screen industry fresh from filming her first feature biopic MAPPLETHORPE starring Matt Smith, which she wrote, directed, produced and edited. Her current work for television, a 10-hour documentary series called JUNGLETOWN is currently screening on SBS's Viceland.
Timoner's career has been defined by an entrepreneurial spirit and documentaries that capture the zeitgeist of their time. Her body of work has served to profile some of the world's most transgressive thinkers and creators, from DIG! to WE LIVE IN PUBLIC to BRAND: A Second Coming.
What is documentary?... It has definitely opened the perception that real life can be much more interesting than anything written. - Ondi Timoner
As founder and CEO of Interloper Films, Timoner revels in immersing herself in content and subjects that shift perceptions and break boundaries. These include works such as AMANDA F---ING PALMER ON THE ROCKS, OBEY THE ARTIST about Shepard Fairey, and THE LAST MILE about a tech incubator inside San Quentin prison.
My whole goal from the get go was to inspire people to create and to follow their instincts and not allow the super ego of society to tamp it down. - Ondi Timoner
Timoner has produced & hosted BYOD (Bring Your Own Doc) the only doc talk show in the world, with over 250 episodes covering 350 films since 2011. She is also the Founder/CEA (Chief Exec Artist) of A TOTAL DISRUPTION an online network dedicated to telling the stories of creators who use technology to change the way we live.
I am driving as many eyeballs to see a work of art as possible, and I will leverage everything to do that. The timing for independent film is perfect, connecting directly with the audience reduces the risk of getting ripped off by distributors. - Ondi Timoner
Timoner will share her experiences as an independent producer, visionary and innovator and lay out the do's and dont's of navigating the creative and business waters of independent film in her Keynote session: Ondi Timoner - Girl Disrupted held at SCREEN FOREVER 14-17 November.
Stay tuned for further keynote and featured speaker announcements and discover more about our 2017 programming over the coming weeks.

About Screen Producers Australia
Screen Producers Australia was formed by the screen industry to represent large and small enterprises across a diverse production slate of feature film, television and interactive content. Our members employ hundreds of producers, thousands of related practitioners and drive more than $1.7 billion worth of annual production activity from the independent sector. On behalf of these businesses we are focused on delivering a healthy commercial environment through ongoing engagement with elements of the labour force, including directors, writers, actors and crew, as well as with broadcasters, distributors and government in all its various forms. This coordinated dialogue ensures that our industry is successful, employment levels are strong and the community's expectations of access to high quality Australian content have been met.
