Transcending Screens at SCREEN FOREVER
30/10/2017
VR, AR and AI has opened new frontiers in storytelling, film distribution, monetisation, and ultimately, immersive connection with audiences. These frontiers have garnered a mix of skepticism, opportunity, discovery and fear.
Screen Producers Australia has gathered a cabal of pioneers across the immersive screen content area who will showcase, educate and elucidate audiences on the future of screened entertainment.
SCREEN FOREVER 2017 will feature a curated VR showcase panel with leading content creators including director Clayton Jacobson (Kenny, MSO VR), Samantha Lang (The Well, The Killing Field, Carlotta), VR filmmaker and innovator Jonny Peters (The Dream Channel), VR filmmaker and studio CEO Darren Vukasinovic (Ignition Immersive), and Futurist Jennifer Wilson who has always been on the bleeding edge of where storytelling and technology collide.
The panel Dark Art with a Bright Future will explore misconceptions and opportunities in VR, covering topics ranging from what draws them to VR as a filmmaking medium, the new storytelling techniques it offers and why they resonate with modern audiences, the challenges and surprises of making VR films and candid perspectives on how VR as a filmmaking craft will evolve over the next 12 months. Join us as we explore the practicalities of embracing VR as a narrative screen medium today and in readiness for the future.
We're literally in the midst of a revolution of the screen medium, one that enables us to entirely reimagine the way we craft stories, the methodology behind how we fund and produce them and the ways in which our audiences experience them. Since the dawn of language, storytellers have sought to immerse their audiences in the worlds and lives of others, and technology is opening a fantastic new door that leads us directly into the hearts and dreams of creators, said Darren Vukasinovic, Ignition Immersive.
Additionally, Create NSW will be presenting a session canvassing VR and diversity featuring internationally acclaimed director and writer Rose Troche who is now part of the vanguard of progressive VR narrative based content. The eclectic panel, VR: Creating A New World, will include media presenter Yumi Stynes, Byron Bay Film Festival Director and VR/VFX Producer-Consultant J'aimee Skippon -Volke and be facilitated by actress, writer and director Matilda Brown.
Meanwhile, respected VR evangelist Nathan Anderson the COO and co-founder of Start VR, will hold a Masterclass, Commercialising VR/AR- The Cold Hard Facts covering his experiences in procuring funding from VR / AR manufacturers and US studios and developing appropriate budgets for production and most importantly where, when and how audiences are paying for it.
As part of SCREEN FOREVER's spotlight on ground breaking VR content, Ignition Immersive will support 5 state of the art VR viewing pods across the conference floor, hosted by VR post production experts to explain the technical craft behind making VR films.
These VR viewing pods will feature content from the panel participants plus a range of compelling Australian and international VR films.

About SCREEN FOREVER
Uniting the pillars of entertainment, media and technology, SCREEN FOREVER is one of the largest congregations of screen industry professionals in the Southern Hemisphere. It is attended by the leading Australian and international industry practitioners involved in all aspects of producing, creating, writing, directing, distributing and financing screen content across film, television, games, interactive and online.
About Screen Producers Australia
Screen Producers Australia was formed by the screen industry to represent large and small enterprises across a diverse production slate of feature film, television and interactive content. Our members employ hundreds of producers, thousands of related practitioners and drive more than $1.7 billion worth of annual production activity from the independent sector. On behalf of these businesses we are focused on delivering a healthy commercial environment through ongoing engagement with elements of the labour force, including directors, writers, actors and crew, as well as with broadcasters, distributors and government in all its various forms. This coordinated dialogue ensures that our industry is successful, employment levels are strong and the community's expectations of access to high quality Australian content have been met.
