SPA Congratulates AACTA Awards Winners and Nominees 2017
08/12/2017
The 2017 AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel, honors excellence in film, television and new media productions, in addition to acknowledging the driving forces who shape our profession.
The Australian screen production industry has experienced a triumphant year both creatively and commercially and most gratifyingly we have seen unique Australian narratives capturing screens and the attention of audiences across the globe in addition to resonating locally. Screen Producers Australia is delighted by the diverse slate and record number of awards and nominations for our members at the 2017 AACTA Awards, said Screen Producers Australia CEO, Matt Deaner.
The AACTA awards which encompass the industry luncheon on Monday and the gala Awards held on Wednesday night in Sydney, reflected a diverse and comprehensive recognition of the SME's that constitute SPA's membership that create, devices and export film, television and cross platform productions to Australia and to the world.
Award highlights include See-Saw Film's production Lion achieving recognition with 12 awards across both award ceremonies. It has been so gratifying to see an all-Australian story storm the world stage, said See-Saw Films CEO Emile Sherman said in his acceptance speech. See-Saw Films were also honoured in the television category for their work on Top Of The Lake: China Girl. The economic and cultural dividends that come from our storytelling are just enormous. We need to cherish it and particularly put the brakes on piracy, he added.
The AACTA Awards proved to be a ground breaking award season for SPA members: in the TV category 18 winners were SPA member productions companies; while in the film category all 14 awards were secured by SPA member businesses or productions across production and creative and technical categories.
