Tokyo Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo: 6502) announced today that Toshiba Group has joined Open Invention Network (OIN) as a community member.
OIN is a community that aims to establish a safe environment that eliminates patent risk by cross-licensing patents between OIN member companies for the Linux System, a major software program that includes the Linux OS.
Toshiba Group aims to be one of the world's leading cyber-physical systems technology companies, and makes extensive use of open source technologies like Linux. Joining OIN will allow the Group to accelerate innovation in a risk-free patent environment, and to contribute to the open source software community by transferring certain patent rights to OIN.
Within OIN, Toshiba Group will promote co-creation relationships and speedy system development.
