A trio from WRAL-TV has been honored with a 2024 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for the WRAL documentary Ghosts in the Stadium. The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) made the announcement on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
It was a privilege to produce this important documentary with Chris Lea and Dwayne Myers , said WRAL-TV Documentary Producer Cristin Severance. I am truly honored to work for a company that believes in documentary storytelling.
Severance, WRAL-TV Documentary Photographer Dwayne Myers and WRAL-TV Sports Anchor Chris Lea created the award-winning half-hour historical piece examining the unknown past of four iconic football stadiums in the Carolinas and their links to the painful history of race relations in the United States.
Being a kid from Greensboro, NC & driving on Murrow Blvd for so long, wanting to have 1/10 of the impact Mr. Murrow had, it's an incredible feeling to have one of my works win an award named after him, said Lea. Thank you to Cristin Severance, Dwayne Myers and my WRAL colleagues for helping me bring this vision to life!
The WRAL Documentary Team won for the second year in a row in the Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion category.
