Appear TV Launches DVB-SX Support at ABU
03/03/2015
The new standard has a number of important advantages for broadcasters and operators, including bandwidth efficiencies of up to 50% over DVB-S2 for professional applications and 22% for DTH applications.
By providing support for the new DVB-S2X standard we're enabling our customers to take advantage of the incredible bandwidth efficiencies this new satellite distribution technology offers, said Carl Walter Holst, CEO of Appear TV.
We expect to see DVB-S2X widely deployed by operators and broadcasters for primary and redistribution of content via Satellite, Terrestrial, Cable and IP networks. Our new solutions mean that new and existing Appear TV customers can simply move to DVB-S2X by deploying our new modules in our flexible head-end architecture, with the ease of implementation and bandwidth efficiency combining to make this standard as popular with CFOs as with CTOs, concluded Holst.
DVB-S2X is a DVB ratified extension to the DVB-S2 standard. It achieves significant bandwidth savings over DVB-S2, primarily through higher modulation schemes, improved filtering and better carrier spacing due to lower roll-off' factors, improved Forward Error Correction and support for adaptive coding and modulation. Additional benefits include the opportunity for channel bonding which enables improved statistical multiplexing performance when combined with Appear TV's latest generation of Statmux with its ultra low refresh rate.
Visitors to the Appear TV stand #6 at the ABU, will be able to see demonstrations of the new DB-S2X modulation and demodulation modules running in the Appear TV XC 5000 Series Video & Signal processing Platform. The highly efficient Appear TV DVB/S, DVB/S2 and DVB-S2X demodulators in the new 1 slot module will provide 64 channels in the XC5000 4RU and 24 in the XC5100 1RU unit; the dual carrier S2X modulator completes the pairing.
