Clayton Square Shopping Centre Lighting

Studiotech were approached by Troup Bywaters and Anders (on behalf of their client Land Securities) to provide specialist lighting which not only improves the white ambient light but gives an exciting and interesting architectural solution.

Previously the centre was using outdated and inefficient metal halide and halogen fixtures which were expensive to run and difficult to replace due to their inaccessibility. The feature lighting was equally as inefficient and awkward to maintain.

After an extensive survey Studiotech offered a low energy lighting design based around a full, highly efficient, LED solution: the main malls being illuminated by a combination of 70w LED floodlamps and 16w recessed downlighters. Models were produced to validate the design proposals and reassure the client that the design would deliver the light levels required whilst using substantially less energy. Studiotech also offered to replace the architectural lighting with a new RGB LED system that requires minimum ongoing maintenance and provide full control functionality to Centre Management using the existing BMS. The finished installation actually outperforms the design modelling by increasing light levels by almost 30% whilst reducing the overall energy usage by 60%.

The whole installation process was completed out of normal hours, on time and within budget ensuring a minimum of disturbance and disruption to trading.

For retailers and customers alike the new lighting is proving to be a major attraction giving a boost to the already thriving tourist city.
