Last year MTV boosted its UK digital ad sales ahead of growth plans including third-party ad sales for relevant brands (nma 29 July 2010).
The Official Charts Company is the first deal for MTV and was agreed based on a longstanding commercial partnership for broadcast between the companies.
MTV said that while it didn't rule out further partnerships with other parties, it would only make deals with brands with which it felt there was a good fit.
Duncan McCrum, head of digital sales at MTV Networks UK & Ireland, said, We did this because it's a good brand fit. At the moment it's just baby steps but we're looking for opportunities to grow the business and this could be a route we go down.
