Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on April 26 25.04.2018

In April 2011, the International Telecommunication Union announced the establishment of the International Girls in ICT Day. The initiative to hold this holiday was supported by the Member States of the International Telecommunication Union. Ever since, many countries in the world celebrate Girls in ICT Day annually on the fourth Thursday of April. In 2018 the holiday will be held on April 26.

This day is primarily aimed at appreciating girls' interests and strengths and encouraging them to choose the professions in the field of information and communication technologies. Supporting education for women and girls in the ICT industry is also consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goal 5 on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, including through information and communication technologies.

The project is aimed to create a global environment that enhances girls and young women rights and encourages them to choose a profession in the rapidly developing field of ICT. Despite the obvious benefits, many girls didn't think about professional activities in the field of ICT. Today the ICT sector is developing rapidly and it requires a lot of talented people. This means that women with a high level of qualification in technical fields all over the world have new prospects.

Now more than 300,000 girls and young women have participated in 9,000 events in the framework of the International Girls in ICT Day, which is celebrated in 166 countries around the world.
