New 100% Mexican Series Are on the Way

As part of its US$1 billion investment in series and film production in Mexico, Netflix unveiled a new slate of series in production this year.

Netflix reinforces its commitment to telling Mexican stories and working with local creators.

Netflix announced today the start of production of four brand new series in Mexico: Santita, Love 9 to 5 (Amor de oficina), I'm not afraid (No tengo miedo) and Corruptors (Los corruptores). Netflix also confirmed the end of production of Lovesick (Mal de amores), the long-awaited adaptation of the novel written by ngeles Mastretta and directed by her daughter, Catalina Aguilar Mastretta. These stories reflect Netflixs commitment to continue bringing Mexican stories created by local creators to the screen.

"We continue to expand the range of stories to be told, but always betting on their authenticity. To achieve this, we are investing even more resources and efforts in the development phase of these productions, because dedicating more time to this phase brings tremendous benefits for both creators and audiences," explained Carolina Leconte, Vice President of Content for Netflix Mexico.

Santita, a series by director Rodrigo Garc a (Familia, The Follies), will be starring Paulina D vila and Gael Garc a Bernal.

I'm not Afraid, based on the renowned Italian novel by Niccol Ammaniti, will be directed by Ernesto Contreras and starring Luis Alberti, F tima Molina, Yoshira Esc rrega, Humberto Busto and Leidi Gutierrez.

Corruptors, based on the novel of the same name by Jorge Zepeda Patterson, featuring Michel Brown, Zuria Vega, Osvaldo Benavides and Ra l Briones in the cast.

"The development work ahead of production is key to arriving on set with everything ready: from scriptwriting to meetings with directors and actors to test the tone, and for the creative team, Netflixs support throughout that process helps maintain one vision from start to finish," said Carolina Rivera, showrunner of Love 9 to 5.

"The support and empowerment of creators by the studios' creative team is very important, there must always be a lot of collaboration. This allows us to understand characters with very specific life stories and develop content that is able to reach all audiences," mentioned Gerardo Gatica, Producer of Santita.

The new series add to the already announced Mexican series to be released in 2025: Snakes and Ladders, The Dead Girls, How to Win the Lottery, The Gringo Hunters, Unspeakable Sins and No One Saw Us Leave. All of these series have been produced in different states of Mexico, which creates a multiplier effect on the economy by encouraging local industries and generating growth opportunities.
