LiveLinx a hit at the IBC!
LiveLinx, our live broadcasting service, drew quite a crowd at this years International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. A must-attend for those in the broadcasting industry, IBC2012 enjoyed a record attendance this year with 51,000 delegates, exhibitors and visitors attending the event between 6-12 September.
A number of european broadcasters and system integrators expressed their interest in LiveLinx, a joint venture between AirSpeed and Digital Space, which uses Ka band satellite capability to offer live outside broadcasting services across Europe and North Africa. We are confident that a number of on-going trials and demonstrations with broadcasters will lead to a successful rollout of a managed service fleet of LiveLinx vehicles.
The LiveLinx service includes a fully-fitted mobile vehicle (KA Sat Van) equipped with a LiveLinx MPEG4 uplink for broadcasting live feeds. Connectivity with the broadcaster will be achieved via a dedicated IP connection that will be provided by the AirSpeed Telecom PoP.
Using Ka band satellite capability, AirSpeed can now offer both financial and time savings to broadcasters looking to reduce satellite uplink fees and operational costs. Auto acquire antennas mean the LiveLinx service is essentially a turnkey solution that can be operated by anyone, without the need for a satellite uplink engineer.
In Ireland, RTE regularly uses LiveLinx for live outside broadcasts. Most notably, the service was used by RTE to facilitate live reporting on the visits of US President Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland in May 2011.
