An often overlooked area of expertise, the Infrastructure category of the TVBAwards highlights the impressive work being done in systems integration, archive digitisation, and media asset management. The event returns for its second year, and will take place next Thursday 22 October at the Bloomsbury Ballroom. Winners of all awards will be announced on the night, including the successful teams nominated in the Infrastructure category, profiled below.
Nominations for the achievement in Systems Integration award include Gearhouse Broadcast, for its OBPod for Sky Sports' Formula One coverage; Danmon Systems Group for an HD upgrade at TV2 FYN-DENMARK; Timeline Television for its Ultra HD OB truck used by BT Sport; and Megahertz, for moving South Africa's e.tv to an all-new HD facility.
The nominations for Archive Digitisation cover a wide range of interesting projects. BBC S&PP is in the running, in recognition of the work of its Digital Media Services team which digitally restored historic footage of Winston Churchill's funeral for a commemorative special for BBC Parliament, The State Funeral 50 Years On. Nexidia has also been nominated, for its Dialogue Search software which enables users to type any combination of words into a search field and find any media clip where those words are spoken - independent of any captions, transcripts, or metadata. Using these capabilities, users can dive deeper into their media libraries to find assets that would have otherwise gone undiscovered. Also in the running is Wazee Digital for its work with the US Defense Imagery Management Operations Center, and The International Olympic Committee (IOC) for its PAM programme to conserve its audio visual assets.
Five teams are in the running for the achievement in Asset Management, the third award in the Infrastructure category. Avid has been nominated for the successful installation of Avid Interplay at Brussels-based broadcaster VRT, as part of its transition to an HD workflow. Cinegy has been nominated for its Archive enterprise archive and MAM solution, Nativ for MioEverywhere, and Aspera for the installation of its Orchestrator system for Perform. The fifth company in the running for the award is Vizrt for its MAM implementation at the Dutch national TV and film archive, which acts as an online library for over 70 per cent of the Dutch audio- visual heritage.
Winners of all 17 TVBAwards will be announced at the event next Thursday, which will open with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and an after party. Tickets are available via the TVBAwards site now.
