Liberty Global, VTR Globalcom, ARRIS Speakers to Outline Bandwidth Strategies

SEPT. 17, 2014 (Exton, PA) Meeting business and residential customers' "need for speed" will be the topic of discussion when technology thought leaders from around the world gather for the annual International Attendee Breakfast hosted by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE) on Thursday, Sept. 25, at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014.

On a panel entitled "Speeding up the World: Higher Capacities in International Cable Systems," cable operators representing systems in Europe and the Americas will discuss a variety of strategies for increasing cable network capacities. Among the approaches that will be discussed at the 8 a.m. event will be:

Remote PHY;

Expansion of the RF downstream to 1 GHz;

Optimizing spectral efficiency with OFDM on existing HFC networks; and

Preparations for DOCSIS 3.1 deployment.

Bill Warga, vice president, technology and a member of the Chief Architecture Group for Liberty Global, will moderate the International Attendee Breakfast panel. Panelists will include: Tom Cloonan, Ph.D., CTO, Network Solutions, ARRIS Group, Inc.; Hernan Benavides, engineering manager, VTR Globalcom; and Hans Wambach, director, access engineering, Liberty Global.

A second discussion will focus on how cable exhibition and educational events are helping cable operators accelerate deployment of new technology and stay up-to-date. The panel will include Carsten Engelke, director, technology for ANGA; Eduardo Uria, Member, ATVC Board of Directors and Engineering Committee; Claus Adams, president, ISBE Central Europe Chapter; Hiroshi Asami, president of The Keihanshin Cablevision; and Jerzy Straszewski, President of the Board, Polish Chamber of Electronic Communication.

The International Breakfast will be sponsored by ARRIS Group Inc.
