Haksul Muziq trended on social media after winning the SAMPRA Artist of the Year Award at the 28th edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) on Sunday 28 August. The musician beat out the likes of Makhadzi, Emtee, A-Reece and amapiano break-out star Young Stunna for the award.

Here are five things you need to know about this year's SAMA Artist of the Year recipient.

1. HAKSUL MUZIQ IS FROM EKURHULENI According to the Alberton Record, Tokoloho Mavuso, better known as Haksul Muziq was born and bred in Ekurhuleni, in the east of Johannesburg. He has been in the music industry since he was seven and became a DJ at 16 years old.

I was so fortunate to have my parents by my side because they always believed in me and they encouraged me to be cultivated in everything I do to produce the best results, he told the publication.

2. WHERE DID HE GET HIS UNIQUE NAME? As per the Alberton Record, Haksul Muziq's name was inspired by local actor and musician, Anga Makubalo, better known as Naak Musiq.

3. HE HAS WORKED WITH SOME OF THE COUNTRY'S BIGGEST ARTISTS Haksul Muziq has worked with some of the biggest musicians in South Africa including Kamo Mphela, MFR Souls, Big Zulu and amapiano stars De Mthuda and Semi Tee.

Speaking on his SAMA nomination, Haksul Muziq said he was surprised to be nominated alongside big artists.

I knew that one day I will make it to the SAMA stage, however, I did not expect it to be this soon.

4. MORE THAN JUST A MUSICIAN Haksul Muziq is more than just a musician and holds qualifications in logistics, supply chain and architecture. The Ekuhurleni-based muso is also a football player.

5. HAKSUL MUZIQ HAS NO TIME FOR THE HATERS Taking to Instagram on Monday 29 August, Haksul Muziq said he was not expecting the debate around his Artist of the Year win at the SAMAs and praised his supporters for their votes.

If you don't know Haksul Muziq thas your problem, we showed them real support that's it. They failed to vote now [they are] trying to blame the SAMAs.
