IRVINE, CA-May 3, 2012-Sonnet today announced that its xMac mini Server PCIe 2.0 Expansion System/1U Rackmount Enclosure for Mac mini with Thunderbolt Ports is one of only six products featured at the recent 2012 NAB Show to be honored with Post magazine's Post Pick Award. The Post Pick Award recognizes the select best-in-show offerings that are destined to have the greatest impact on post-production workflows.

The xMac mini Server (previously known as RackMac mini Xserver) transforms a Mac mini into a full-fledged workstation, mounting the computer inside a specially designed 1U rackmount enclosure that contains two PCI Express (PCIe) slots that connect to the computer through its Thunderbolt port. The expansion system also features a 100W power supply and employs variable speed fans to cool the cards and computer. This system enables users to plug in two PCIe 2.0 adapter cards (one half-length/half-height and one full-length/full-height) to slots connected to the Mac mini via an included Thunderbolt cable, while allowing the daisy chain connection of additional Thunderbolt peripherals to its second Thunderbolt port. The Mac mini's Gigabit Ethernet, USB, and HDMI interfaces are extended to the back of the unit. In these ways, the Mac mini is able to use expansion cards normally usable only in the Mac Pro , and may be deployed as a stand-in for the now-discontinued Xserve , for a smaller, lighter, and more compact footprint at in either a back office or mobile rack frequently used in on-location shoots for cinema and other media projects.

The Post Pick winners are chosen by Post magazine's editorial contributors, working post professionals who scour the NAB Show floor to discover the newest products that they feel could have the most positive impact on their own post workflows.

The xMac Mini Server will begin shipping at the end of May for $1,295.
