
Up Media TV and Teltoo promise to halve the costs of content distribution via CDN Las dos empresas han combinado sus servicios y ofrecen un modelo de transmisi n descentralizada que reduce el n mero de peticiones hacia los CDNs, ya que convierte a los dispositivos que est n conectados al streaming en puntos de cach temporales.
Ofrecer el servicio m s completo de televisi n avanzada y causar el m nimo impacto en la red de las operadoras. Con este objetivo TV Up Media ha incorporado en su plataforma PayTV multi-tenant la innovadora tecnolog a de descentralizaci n of Teltoo. Con esta soluci n se reduce de forma muy significativa el n mero de peticiones hacia los CDNs, ya que los dispositivos que est n conectados al streaming se convierten tambi n en puntos de cach temporales, con lo que se optimiza de forma muy importante el uso de recursos de las operadoras y se mejora la calidad del servicio.
El mercado de la televisi n de pago en Espa a vive un momento de expansi n gracias a las nuevas v as de consumo de contenido. Las mejoras en las infraestructuras y la consolidaci n de la visualizaci n de v deo en dispositivos m viles ha revitalizado un mercado que ha pasado de ingresar 1.513 millones en 2013 a facturar 2.161 millones el a o pasado. Uno de los grandes catalizadores de este crecimiento ha sido la expansi n de los paquetes quad-play, que integran tel fono fijo y m vil, internet, datos y televisi n de pago. En 2013 se hab an contratado 0,7 millones de paquetes es este tipo, y la cifra ha aumentado hasta los 5,9 millones con que se cerr el 2018.
La posibilidad de ofrecer paquetes quad-play con PayTV que incluya la visualizaci n de contenido multipantalla era hasta hace muy poco un negocio al alcance s lo de las grandes operadoras, ya que los costes eran muy elevados, pero el paradigma ha cambiado con la soluci n que ofrece la plataforma TVUp, que aplica los ltimos avances tecnol gicos para permitir a cualquier operadora, sea cual sea su tama o e infraestructura, ofertar paquetes integrados.
El futuro es OTT El impacto de la televisi n por streaming es evidente y la tecnolog a OTT se convertir en la v a principal para consumir contenidos los pr ximos a os. Internet ha redefinido las reglas y ahora el usuario quiere el contenido de forma inmediata, en todas partes y en cualquier dispositivo. Al
mismo tiempo que este nuevo entorno supone una gran oportunidad, tambi n supone un gran reto tecnol gico para que las operadoras garanticen una experiencia de usuario satisfactoria manteniendo unos costes competitivos.
En la cadena de proceso de streaming en vivo o bajo demanda hay varios factores que cuidar: la captura, la transcodificaci n, encriptaci n mediante DRM, el almacenamiento en cach , el estado en la red y la entrega a diferentes dispositivos. En el caso del contenido en vivo es incluso m s complejo, porque todo sucede en tiempo real.
El streaming en directo, adem s, es relativamente nuevo y hay a n pocos datos e informaci n al respecto, por lo que la mayor a de las empresas tienden a invertir en exceso en equipamiento. El uso de m ltiples puntos de cacheo, con el fin de crear capacidad suficiente en caso de que ocurra algo inesperado, o el despliegue de costas infraestructuras multicast dedicadas, son algunos de esos gastos. Es por esto TV Up Media y Teltoo han focalizado sus esfuerzos en optimizar todo el proceso para que las operadoras puedan ofrecer un servicio de televisi n de calidad sin tener que hacer grandes inversiones.
Mejoras en calidad con ahorro de costes El CTO de TVUp, Francisco S ez, que es tambi n advisor de Teltoo desde su fundaci n, destaca que con TVUp las operadoras no precisan desplegar redes de distribuci n ad hoc para ofrecer TV a sus clientes, por ejemplo, de distribuci n IP multicast, ya que la plataforma emplea tecnolog as de video OTT similares a las de Youtube, Netflix o HBO, que los operadores ya procuran poder distribuir con el mejor rendimiento a los usuarios finales de sus servicios de banda ancha. Adem s, TVUp a ade la facilidad de ser un servicio OTT amigable con el operador', proporcionando mecanismos h bridos de acceso a contenidos live, cuidando la experiencia del cliente, evitando riesgos de congesti n en las redes y evitando tambi n costes excesivos en peering. El uso que se hace en los STBs del TDT y la tecnolog a de descentralizaci n de CDN que aporta Teltoo, la cual se incorpora en todos los dispositivos de la plataforma, marcan una clara diferencia con respecto a cualquiera de las soluciones que hasta ahora se han podido ver en este mbito .
Por otra parte, el CEO de Teltoo, Pablo Hesse, detalla los beneficios de la tecnolog a que su empresa ha desarrollado: Gracias a esta nueva forma de operar se evita recurrir siempre al CDN, lo que implica que el contenido pueda estar viajando por la red mucho m s lejos de lo necesario, con el empleo de recursos y el impacto extra de consumo energ tico que ello supone.
El elemento clave de Teltoo es la gesti n y el control de la experiencia de usuario en todo momento, monitorizando permanentemente las velocidades de subida y bajada de cada dispositivo o el tipo de conexi n en que se encuentran (Wifi, red o m vil), evitando niveles de saturaci n. Todos estos niveles son configurables por el propio operador, proporcionando un control total y una enorme flexibilidad.
Asimismo, Teltoo da una respuesta sencilla a la implementaci n, ya que se integra de forma liviana en el reproductor de video y utiliza la cach del player, por lo que no a ade latencia sobre la estructura ya existente de OTT, adem s de otorgar una mayor flexibilidad en contenidos de baja demanda (no necesita un pool de usuarios tan grandes como otras tecnolog as). Esta soluci n tambi n se adapta a los nuevos entornos de consumo fuera del hogar, ahorrando puntos de peering entre diferentes operadores.
