Panasonic has unveiled its next generation live production production platform, Kairos.

The platform offers an open architecture for live video switching, input and output flexibility, resolution and format independence, maximum CPU/GPU utilisation and nearly unlimited ME scalability.

The COTS-based Kairos system offers native SMPTE ST 2110 IP support and enables live IP workflows. It can eliminate dedicated hardware constraints, the company said.

Kairos is introduced as the content creation industry transitions to live IP workflows, requiring broadcast and event producers to think about how they will future-proof their productions and facilities, said Michael Bergeron, Panasonic senior product manager for live production systems.

With an ever-growing set of tools and hardware, producers need a comprehensive solution for multiple applications to break free of the boundaries of traditional hardware. As an IT/IP platform based on an open software architecture, Kairos takes the various components of a broadcast programme and virtualises them, so productions are flexible, dynamic and powerful.

Panasonic also introduced a 1080p HDR studio/field camera that will be upgradable to native 4K 60p/50p.

The AK-HC3900GJ/GSJ 1080p HDR studio camera system offers a full simultaneous high dynamic range (HDR) and standard dynamic range (SDR) feature set and multiformat capability, including support for 1080: 59.94p, 50p, 59.94i, 50i, 29.97PsF, 25PsF, 23.98PsF; 720: 59.94p/50p; and future 4K 60p/50p. It uses an internal 4K imaging system to capture HD HDR images in ITU BT.2020 colour space, said Panasonic.

The company's new AK-HCU250PJ/PSJ/EJ/ESJ camera control unit (CCU) and new AK-HRP250GJ remote operation panel (ROP) can be used together to connect high-grade uncompressed video and control to the camera head via optical fibre or SMPTE Hybrid cable, which also will deliver power to the camera, it said.

The new CCU offers all the system features to control the HC3800, the predecessor to the new camera, as well as simultaneous output of HDR and SDR, expanded format capability and an upgrade path to 4K. It also supports 3G trunk and 3G prompter functions, Panasonic said.
