Kevin MacLellan has been promoted to the role of Chairman, NBCUniversal International, following Jeff Shell's move to Chairman, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group in Los Angeles.
With more than 25 years of experience in international and domestic television production, programming and management, MacLellan is based in London. Effective immediately, MacLellan will take responsibility for day-to-day operations and lead international expansion opportunities, increasing non-US revenues and driving collaborative business growth across NBCUniversal operations outside North America, including Theatrical, Home Entertainment, Theme Parks and Television distribution, networks and production. Additionally, MacLellan will continue Shell's prior remit in supporting Comcast's overseas expansion strategy. In his new role, MacLellan will join the Executive Committee of NBCUniversal.
Steve Burke commented, Over 12 years with Comcast, Kevin MacLellan has proven himself to be a dynamic and talented executive. With his extensive international experience, I am confident Kevin's strategic leadership will take NBCUniversal International into its next phase of growth.
Belinda Menendez (President, International TV Distribution & Universal Networks International) and Michael Edelstein (President, International Television Production) will continue to report to MacLellan in his new capacity. Additionally, MacLellan will work in close partnership with David Kosse (President, International, Universal Pictures), overseeing international film operations and Eddie Cunningham (President, UPIE), who manages Universal's international home entertainment business.
MacLellan will also drive the International growth agenda by working collaboratively with KC Sullivan (President, CNBC International), Marcos Santana (President, Telemundo International), Chris Hampson, (Regional Director of International News) and Alison Montague (MD EMEA, Parks & Resorts), who all continue to be an important part of NBCUniversal's International business portfolio.
Kevin MacLellan said, NBCUniversal and Comcast's unique combination of content and distribution assets present many significant opportunities to grow our International business across multiple markets and media platforms in a dynamically evolving landscape. We are in a great place to take our growth to the next level.
MacLellan is supported by a strong corporate team including Rowan Conn (Chief Financial Officer), Andrew Jordan (SVP Intl Operations & Technology), Stephanie Cox (SVP Human Resources), Pank Patel (VP Business Development), Andrew Hall (SVP Legal & Business Affairs) and Denise Bassett (VP Communications).
In his prior role, Kevin MacLellan was President, International Television, appointed following Comcast's acquisition of NBCUniversal in 2011 and overseeing all of NBCUniversal's TV and New Media businesses outside the U.S. Leveraging his extensive experience of building international channel brands, developing original content, growing syndication revenue, and building new media platforms, MacLellan led the re-organisation of NBCUniversal's international television operations to create a single integrated television and new media division.
Before that, MacLellan served as President, Comcast International Media Group (CIMG) & Comcast Entertainment Studios (CES), responsible for Comcast's international television and new media properties internationally, including E! Entertainment Television, E! On-line, The Style Network, The Golf Channel, and G4. He was also responsible for all original production for the networks domestically and internationally, including popular franchises such as The E! True Hollywood Story, The Soup, Fashion Police and Live from the Red Carpet. Under MacLellan's leadership, Comcast increased international channel subscribers from 17million to over 100 million and increased syndication revenue by over 500%.
Prior to joining Comcast Corporation in 2001, MacLellan was Vice President, International Television Networks at Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) inLondon. He was responsible for managing the company's channel investments, carriage agreements and partnerships, as well as overseeing business development.
