WRAL To Host Domestic Violence Phone Bank ursday Night

Capitol Broadcasting launched a campaign to combat domestic violence last week during NFL Thursday Night Football and will continue the effort this Thursday, September 18, 2014, with a phone bank during the evening news.

Starting last Thursday during the NFL Thursday Night Football game on CBS, CBC started creating awareness with new PSAs produced, directed and written by WRAL staffers, featuring CBC personalities. In addition to WRAL-TV, that spot is on our sports radio stations, MIX 101.5, WILM-TV, FOX 50 and even was on the big screen at the Durham Bulls playoff game.

Reaction has been VERY POSITIVE to running the PSAs in Football, said WRAL-TV Creative Director Shelly Leslie. We continued to run them over the weekend in college football on Sat, Logan Zone and NFL on Sunday. FOX 50 also ran the :30 spot in their NFL game.

We have also aired a number of news stories, explained WRAL-TV Vice President and General Manager Steve Hammel. Now it's time to offer help. That help comes in the form of having domestic violence experts take phone calls from people with questions and concerns during our phone bank Thursday from 4:00pm - 7:30pm.

A variety of organizations will be answering calls, and pointing callers to different groups where they can find help. Volunteers from the Raleigh Police Department, InterAct, the N.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence will work alongside retired Superior Court Judge Susan Taylor, John Guard from the Pitt County Sherriff's Department and Stephanie Satkowiak from the Administrative Office of the Courts.
