The NFVF to position SA film industry at the TIFF --

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture is embarking on a trip to the Toronto InternationalFilm Festival (TIFF) taking place from 10 to 20 September in Toronto.

Since 2000, South African film industry has consistently participated in major international film festivals around the world. The country s participation encompasses the screening of South African films, strategic meetings with potential partners and the SA Consulate-General. The NFVF has once again partnered with Film Market Access (FMA) in Toronto, supporting five students emerging filmmakers and three Tier 2 producers to participate in the Toronto Programme taking place during the festival. The eight participants will also have an opportunity to gain industry knowledge by attending panel discussions, screenings and receptions.

Four South African films have been selected to screen at TIFF this year, the films are: Oliver Hermanus Endless River, Charlie Vundla s Cuckold, Zamo Mkhwanazi s The Call and Jihan El-Tahri s Nasser. To celebrate the SA selection at TIFF, the NFVF in partnership with the South African Consulate-General and Blue Ice Pictures will host a networking event at the festival on 14 September.

To ensure that local filmmakers are empowered to attend the festival, the NFVF has funded ten filmmakers including the filmmakers attending the Film Market Access program.

South Africa has an existing co-production treaty with Canada, which was signed in 1997. This official trip will also assist in strengthening relations between local and Canadian filmmakers, mapping the way forward to future co-productions that will benefit both the countries.
