Beyonc and Jay-Z: What you missed when the cameras stopped rolling [video]

It's hard to type while we're transfixed by pure artistry. Yet here we are. The Global Citizen Festival drew to a close on Sunday night with one of the most memorable live performances ever seen in South Africa. Beyonc and Jay-Z killed it in Johannesburg.

The pair descended from the top of the stage on a makeshift platform, backed by the stunning visuals from their Everything Is Love album. The Carters went on to open with a bit of the new stuff (Apeshit) and one from the classic vaults (Bonne and Clyde).

Their entrance onto the stage could have easily been mistaken for the arrival of two messiahs. The crowd went beserk after their idols appeared, who appeared shortly after Cyril Ramaphosa finished his address to the 80 000 spectators in attendance.

As far as election-tactics go, introducing Beyonc at a concert is as good as it gets. Ramaphosa's new dawn might not yet have seen the sunrise, but he could use this to convince a few people it's on its way.

The performance capped a phenomenal evening of entertainment, charitable heroics and a whole host of guest appearances. Oprah, Patrice Motsepe and Naomi Campbell gave some of the most memorable speeches, whereas Pharrell and Cassper Nyovest brought the house down with their sets. Ed Sheeran electrified, and Sho Majozi captivated.

Beyonc and Jay-Z: Why was it taken off TV? Viewers were left perplexed when, tuning into the live video feeds and DSTV broadcast, Beyonc and Jay-Z's show was interrupted. As it turns out, only 25 minutes of their performance has been made available for television.

It's all due to the nature of the Global Citizen Festival itself. They are adamant that those who earned tickets via their activism deserve a unique reward that reward is being the only group of people who get to watch the performance in full. Yeah, we're just as hurt as you are.
