EUROVISION has been made official broadcast partner for the 125th International Olympic Committee (IOC) session, in Buenos Aires in September, which will elect the 2020 Olympic Summer Games host city and the next IOC President.
The agreement with the IOC and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) means Eurovision Special Events and EURORADIO will provide the live signal from the session, when the world will be told whether Istanbul, Madrid or Tokyo will host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad.
During the meeting, at the Hilton Buenos Aires, the IOC will make several other big decisions, including naming a successor for Jacques Rogge, who is to step down as IOC president after 12 years in the post, and the possible inclusion of a new sport in the Olympic programme.
As well as live feeds in standard and high definition, Eurovision Special Events will provide a full range of onsite broadcast services, including:
multiple transmission paths
live stand-up positions
post production
commentary positions
multi-camera studios
radio studio and desks
content distribution to EBU Members via the EUROVISION and EURORADIO satellite and fibre networks
Eurovision Special Events will also install production and transmission facilities in Madrid, Istanbul and Tokyo to capture live reactions for EBU Members' news bulletins.
EUROVISION Head of News & Events Jeff Dubin said the agreement was born of a solid partnership built on years of cooperation.
We have worked with the IOC and OBS on different projects over the years, and they know that EUROVISION offers rock-steady reliability and high quality at every point on the broadcast chain, he said.
EUROVISION has a direct connection to EBU Members, and no one else comes close to offering the kind of reach that is enjoyed by free-to-air public service media.
