Since his untimely passing in February, South Africans are still remembering rapper Riky Rick as a pioneer and as someone who contributed plenty to the local hip-hop scene. The Boss Zonke hitmaker is set to be honoured with the Global Visionary Award at the BET Hip Hop Awards on Friday 30 September. The rapper passed away on 23 February after taking his own life at his Johannesburg home.

RIKY RICK TO RECEIVE POSTHUMOUS BET HIP HOP AWARD Taking to Twitter on Friday 23 September, BET Africa announced that they would be honouring hip-hop star Riky Rick with the Global Visionary Award at the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta on 30 September.

As per IOL, the inaugural award recognises artists who have made an exceptional contribution to grow the hip-hop genre. Riky Rick will be the first recipient of the award.

He pioneered the independent music wave in SA. His independent ventures achieved much success and inspired other artists to explore a similar path, said BET.
