Presenter Aed n N Thiarnaigh uncovers rich array of wild flowers and learns their uses in cookery, medicine and craft

A fascinating new series starting tonight on RT One will see presenter Aed n N Thiarnaigh travel the parks, lakes, bog and mountains of Ireland to uncover our rich array of wild flowers and learn about the folklore associated with them and their uses in cookery, medicine and craft.

In each episode in this brand new 13 part series which airs on Monday evenings at 7.30pm on RT One, Aedin looks at a different habitat, including hedgerows, mountains, lakesides, bogs and meadows, and talks about some of the flowers in season as she visits. In addition to imparting the folklore and superstitions attached to each flower from our past she also seeks out information about the uses that these flowers had in the past and how some of those uses and this knowledge exist today.

Her journey takes her from the lakes of Lough Corrib and brings her as far as the wilds of Joyce Country on the Galway Mayo border and into the beautiful Dingle Peninsula and beyond.

Aed n N Thiarnaigh is a freelance journalist and presenter from Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford who has worked with TG4, RT , BBC Gaeilge and N s.ie. and more recently presenting Faoi Bhl th, an Ab Media Production. She is the founder and curator of the popular @Bl thannaFi ine account on Instagram which shares photos and folklore of Irish wildflowers, focusing especially on the Irish language etymology associated with them. Her snappy reels sharing fun facts about native flowers have garnered her over 5,500 followers.

Aed n says: Presenting Faoi Bhl th is my dream job. It's given me the chance to travel to some of the most breathtaking places in Ireland and to get to know to some of the most interesting people I've ever met about the topics I love the most; our native wildflowers and their folklore.'

Faoi Bhlath airs on Monday nights at 7.30pm from tonight, 14 February, on RT One and RT Player.
