THE VOICE OF HOLLAND - AUGMENTED, TELESCOPIC, REVOLUTION IN BROADCAST

For the first time Egripment used during a live show a 15 meter long telescopic camera crane with Augmented Reality. For a program produced by Talpa Productions The Voice of Holland Egripment delivered a complete Encoded 15 meter Telescopic Camera Crane and a 30 meter Encoded, Generic Track System.

In the late summer of 2014 Talpa Productions asked us to investigate the possibility of using a 15 meter long telescopic camera crane for use with Virtual and Augmented Reality. Talpa is known as the producer who would like to use the latest technical solutions. After an extensive technical and software research Egripment, despite the short development period, decided together with its software partner Trackmen, to take up the challenge.

The challenge consisted of correcting the bending of the arm that occurs in each Crane, due to gravity and obviously this is much bigger when user a longer arm length. This deflection has a very disturbing effect on use with augmented reality.

The crane was fitted with custom designed brackets for use with high quality precision encoders. These type of encoders are fitted on all axes of the camera movement. Pan, Tilt and telescopic movement of the crane and the Pan and Tilt of the remote head.

The greatest challenge was to adjust the Crane deflection, which was solved by writing a special algorithm within the software to correct all positions.

The beautiful graphic designs, produced by Prographics Netherlands, produced in conjunction with the high quality equipment Egripment delivered, viewers had a unique experience that has never been seen on television before.

Egripment delivered a full service package including telescopic crane, rail system, technicians, crane operators, data, and calibration of the equipment and mapping of studio.

Egripment, Trackmen, Prographics and DutchView are very proud that together with Talpa and in particular thanks to creative input from director Sander Vahle - this incredible result was achieved.
