The much-awaited Showtime drama series King Shaka' has reportedly been cancelled before its premiere.

Reports have it that Showtime has pulled the plug on the series despite being almost complete with shooting.

KING SHAKA' CANCELLED BEFORE ITS PREMIERE The cast was already wrapping off the shooting with only 12 days left to conclude. The drama series was co-written with Olu Odebunmi and Tolu Awosika, Propagate, Fuqua Films and CBS Studios.

ZiMoja Lezinto has it that the showrunners are already looking for a new home for the drama series worth R1.6 billion.

Its set is KwaZulu, where King Shaka was born. The storyline and plot were centred on the rise and fall of King Shaka.

No doubt the big-budget Showtime drama series boasts around with a star-studded cast of South Africa's finest on small screens, the likes of Sindi Dlathu, Tony Kgoroge and Bahle Hadebe.

In the wake of the cancellation news rumour mill has it that the cast has already been notified about the latest development.
Hi Everyone, it's with regret to inform you that King Shaka has been cancelled with immediate effect.
The cast was also informed that it was a corporate and financial decision that led to the cancellation of the shoot, and they were notified they were not going to shoot at all.

REASONS BEHIND CANCELLATION REVEALED Reports have it that the shooting was halted after the streaming channel Showtime merged with Paramount. The merging of the two took a toll on Showtime productions slated to premiere soon.
Not only was the King Shaka drama series affected, but other productions like Three Women and Ripley were also halted.
