
Panasonic Varicam: creativity without limits with their own personality Como ha quedado patente en el Varicam Experience Day' que Panasonic ha organizado en la sede de la Academia de Cine en Madrid, los directores de fotograf a han encontrado en la gama Varicam a la aliada perfecta para llevar a cabo sus producciones m s exitosas logrando im genes al l mite de la plena creatividad.
Panasonic reuni este mi rcoles en la sede en Madrid de la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematogr ficas de Espa a a numerosos profesionales del sector para compartir impresiones acerca del potencial creativo y t cnico de su gama de c maras para cinematograf a digital Varicam.
En este VariCam Experience Day ha quedado m s que patente que desde su lanzamiento hace ya dos a os, los directores de fotograf a han encontrado en la Varicam a la aliada perfecta para llevar a cabo sus producciones m s exitosas. La gama de c maras VariCam se ha utilizado en una gran variedad de pel culas, anuncios y programas de televisi n, y es conocida por su reproducci n del color y aspecto, as como por aportar flujos de trabajo progresivos a la industria de la producci n.
Oriol Massagu , por parte de Panasonic, y Andr s Torres, presidente de Asociaci n Espa ola de autores de obras fotogr ficas Cinematogr ficas (AEC), de la que el fabricante es Miembro Protector, fueron los encargados de dar la bienvenida a los asistentes, anticipando ya que asistir an a una serie de pruebas con diferentes Varicam llev ndolas a l mites insospechados y logrando resultados espectaculares.
Luc Bara, product manager de la gama de productos para cine de Panasonic, inici la jornada presentando el line up de Varicam compuesto actualmente por varias versiones que comparten sensor y la misma tecnolog a: Varicam Pure (la ltima versi n capaz de generar archivos 4K RAW sin compresi n hasta 120p y grabarlos en la unidad externa ultrafiable de Codex), Varicam LT (una versi n m s light con grabaci n ProRes en 4K 60p y 4K 4:2:2 de 10bits a 30p), y Varicam 35 (que ofrece ProRes 4K 4:4:4 de 12 bits a 30p).
Como ya se adelant hace unos d as en Cine Gear Expo (Hollywood), Bara aprovech este Varicam Experience Day para anunciar el lanzamiento de una nueva versi n de la familia: la AU-EVA1. Esta c mara cuenta con sensor Super 35mm de 5.7K capaz de grabar internamente a 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 hasta 60p y con Dual-Native ISO (como ya poseen la Varicam LT y 35 y que permite conmutar entre una sensibilidad est ndar a una sensibilidad alta sin un incremento de ruido o artefactos). La nueva EVA1, que previsiblemente ver la luz en septiembre pr ximo, estar situada por gama y prestaciones entre la GH5 y la Varicam LT y apenas pesar 1,2 kilos.
Por otro lado, Bara hizo un repaso a las numerosas pel culas y producciones televisivas que se han rodado con esta gama de c maras destacando que Netflix la ha escogido como c mara de referencia para sus producciones en 4K. Por el momento, ya ha estrenado Orange is the new black, Frontier, Lovem Anne and 13 Reasons Why y ultima Ozark, 6 Balloons, Gypsy and Requiem, entre otras.
Bara destac que John Christian Rosenlund emple la Varicam 35 en la producci n de la cinta preseleccionada a los Oscar, The king's Choice. El prestigioso director de foto captur incre bles escenas de guerra nocturnas que hay que ver para creer sin apenas iluminaci n disparando en ISO 5000 y grabando en AVC Intra 4K 4:2:2.
Por otro lado, Bill Wages ha capturado con Varicam las series Containment and SunRecords y el largometraje The Forgiven. En el caso de la serie de siete cap tulos SunRecords rod en ISO 800 en exteriores e ISO 5000 en interiores destacando que con esta ltima exposici n se divide por cinco las necesidades de iluminaci n a la par que se ahorra tiempo en el setup de montaje ya que las fuentes tanto principales como de relleno se reducen a la m nima expresi n.
Por ltimo, Bara comparti el trabajo de campo que Oona Menges ha llevado a cabo rodando escenas en Londres poniendo a la Varicam Pure a prueba en situaciones extremas de movimiento y luz.
Flexibilidad
El director de fotograf a Tommie Ferreras particip en este Varicam Experience Day para dar a conocer sus conclusiones sobre el rango din mico, el color y el ISO Dual que ofrece la Varicam Pure, c mara con la que ha llevado una serie de exigentes tests. Utilizando lentes Fuji, Ferreras rod a 120 fps la mayor parte de un material destinado a valorar las posibilidades que tiene la c mara tanto en rodaje como en postproducci n a nivel de visual effects y trabajo de color, ya que este modelo de Varicam trabaja sin compresi n.
Entre otras conclusiones destac que lo que m s me gusta de Varicam es su flexibilidad. Desde el lanzamiento de las primeras versiones ya pudimos constatar que la c mara ofrec a un look cine diferente logrando tonos de piel de lo m s natural. Es una c mara que tiene personalidad y textura. Adem s cuenta con un peso y medidas apropiadas que me permite moverme por el set buscando el encuadre adecuado con total libertad de movimientos .
La Varicam Pure cuenta con un Sensor Super 35 CMOS, rolling shutter, rango din mico de 14 tops casi reales, ISO nativo de 800 a 5000, montura PL en aluminio y posibilidad de recoger hasta 4K 4096 2160 p xeles. Sobre el sensor, Ferreras ha subrayado que ofrece un look diferente, gran flexibilidad ISO sin necesitar adaptadores, con una temperatura de trabajo estable, balance de negros, y un potente rango din mico en altas y sobre todo en bajas luces.
Sobre el ISO dual, coment que se consigue el mismo rango din mico equivalente en ambas sensibilidades con muy poco ruido residual incluso cuando se sobrepone 1stop. La c mara ofrece, adem s, total estabilidad crom tica en bajas luces. Incluso, obturando se consigue duplicar el ISO sin generar m s ruido .
