Goodbye to Pedro Erquicia, father of Weekly report and first director of TelemadridDirector y presentador de emblem ticos programas de Televisi n Espa ola, el periodista Pedro Erquicia fue uno de los rostros m s reconocidos y respetados de la televisi n p blica espa ola.
El periodista Pedro Erquicia ha fallecido hoy en Madrid a los 75 a os de edad. Nacido en San Sebasti n en 1943, fue uno de los rostros m s reconocidos y respetados de la televisi n p blica espa ola hasta su jubilaci n en 2008.
Erquicia se gradu en Periodismo por la Escuela Oficial en 1967, aunque dos a os antes ya hab a comenzado a trabajar como colaborador en los estudios de TVE en el madrile o Paseo de la Habana. Entr a formar parte de la plantilla del ente p blico en marzo de 1968 y all ocup diferentes puestos y responsabilidades durante las siguientes d cadas: fue desde regidor a reportero y redactor, as como jefe de diferentes espacios, casi siempre ligado a los servicios informativos.
Fue redactor jefe y realizador de Overview of current (1968-1970) y redactor jefe de la Primera Edici n (1972-1973) del Telediario. El 31 de marzo de 1973 comenz su andadura como director y presentador de Weekly report, el espacio informativo decano de la televisi n espa ola que dirigi y present hasta 1978. A partir de ese momento se traslad a Nueva York como corresponsal sustituyendo en el puesto a Jes s Hermida.
A su regreso arincipios de 1981 asumi la subdirecci n de los Servicios Informativos de TVE. Erquicia fue precisamente uno de los profesionales que estuvo presente en la grabaci n del mensaje del rey Juan Carlos la noche del intento del golpe de Estado del 23 de febrero de 1981.
En junio de 1981 el por entonces director Fernando Castedo lo nombr jefe de los Servicios Informativos, en sustituci n de I aki Gabilondo, un cargo del que dimiti en octubre de ese mismo a o tras la llegada a TVE de Robles Piquer. Volvi a Nueva York como corresponsal de TVE.
En octubre de 1987 fue nombrado director del informativo del fin de semana 48 horas, cargo del que lo destituy Julio de Benito el 7 de enero de 1988, durante la etapa de Pilar Mir . En octubre de ese a o fue nombrado de la nueva televisi n auton mica Telemadrid, cargo en el que permaneci hasta 1990.
De vuelta a TVE, en noviembre de 1990 se hizo cargo del informativo TV documents, del que tambi n fue su presentador.
Cofundador de la Academia de de las Artes y las Ciencias de Televisi n en 1997, Pedro Erquicia recibi numerosos galardones a lo largo de su carrera como el Premio Talento otorgado por esta instituci n, dos Antenas de Oro, el Premio Nacional de Televisi n y el Premio de Televisi n del Club Internacional de Prensa en 2007.
El presidente de la Academia de Televisi n, Manuel Campo Vidal ha se alado que ha sigo un golpe, al menos para nosotros, inesperado. Fue un gran periodista, creador de formatos emblem ticos de televisi n, corresponsal de TVE en Nueva York y fundador de esta Academia. En un momento determinado, a pesar de estar en el centro de todo el hurac n televisivo, supo pasar al retiro con una dignidad encomiable. Sigui dando apoyo a otros periodistas a trav s de las cenas que organizaba en su casa, present ndoles en ambiente distendido a diversas personalidades. All se conocieron el entonces Pr ncipe de Asturias y la entonces presentadora de televisi n Letizia Ortiz. Ha llevado la enfermedad que ahora hemos conocido con la misma dignidad y discreci n .
La periodista Rosa Mar a Mateo ha destacado que sent a por Pedro un gran cari o y respeto profesional. A l se lo debo todo. Me llam para presentar Informe Semanal y me hizo ser lo que soy. Es una de las personas que m s sab a de televisi n en este pa s donde desgraciadamente el reconocimiento a la excelencia y veteran a no existe. Hizo el programa informativo m s emblem tico de TVE. Ten a visi n para escoger equipos y nunca tuvo miedo de tener a su lado gente brillante.
El periodista y acad mico Fernando nega ha declarado que Pedro ha sido el gran maestro del periodismo informativo en este pa s en televisi n. Es el hombre que invent m s formatos de televisi n y merecer siempre reconocimiento por su gran capacidad creativa. Trat de buscar siempre lo que hab a m s all de la noticia, lo que en aquellos tiempos del nacimiento de Informe Semanal fue absolutamente revolucionario .
Por su parte, el periodista Baltasar Magro ha expresado que es una noticia dolorosa porque Pedro ha sido uno de los personajes m s importantes de la televisi n de este pa s. Impuls un periodismo eminentemente audiovisual, algo que hoy echo en falta en las televisiones. Y el exponente m s destacado de este enfoque en el medio audiovisual es el programa que l cre : Informe Semanal.
