
EFE celebrates 75 years focusing more than ever on the audiovisual EFE impulsar desde su nueva sede en Madrid los contenidos multimedia. Actualmente, distribuye 40.000 v deos y otros tantos audios a cualquier lugar del planeta al instante.
From that was born EFE all por 1939, en medio de una Espa a devastada por la Guerra Civil, hasta convertirse en la cuarta mayor agencia multimedia del mundo y la primera en espa ol, han transcurrido 75 a os.
M s de tres mil profesionales de sesenta nacionalidades trabajan hoy en EFE recogiendo y difundiendo cada a o 4.000 reportajes, 900.000 fotos, 40.000 v deos y otros tantos audios a cualquier lugar del planeta al instante.
Un panorama muy lejos de sus comienzos cuando cuatro radiotelegrafistas recib an en Madrid informaci n que despu s redactaban y era distribuida por un ciclista a los peri dicos y emisoras m s importantes de Madrid.
El 2 de enero de 1966, EFE inaugur el servicio informativo exterior para distribuirlo en Am rica Latina y se abrieron corresponsal as en todos los pa ses del continente, con Buenos Aires, Lima, Caracas y M xico como las cuatro patas iniciales de la mesa sobre las que se asent su vocaci n americanista.
Fue un paso previo a la creaci n, en 1972 y junto a destacados medios locales, de la Agencia Centroamericana de Noticias (ACAN), con sede en Panam .
La expansi n de EFE continu en las siguientes d cadas con el lanzamiento de servicios de noticias en ingl s, portugu s y rabe y unific sus criterios de elaboraci n de informaci n desde 1976, cuando se cre el primer Manual de Estilo , que hoy es todo un referente period stico.
La apertura de Mesas de Edici n multimedia en Miami o Bogot , que acercan la informaci n latinoamericana a sus destinatarios en el continente, completan una pol tica de expansi n en la d cada de los a os 90 del pasado siglo que ha incluido el refuerzo de la presencia en Europa, Oriente Medio, frica y Asia.
Dos hechos marcan la modernizaci n de EFE en las ltimas d cadas y sit an las noticias de la agencia como centro de atenci n mundial: la celebraci n en Espa a de la Copa Mundial de F tbol en 1982 y los Juegos Ol mpicos de Barcelona, diez a os m s tarde.
La agencia asumi ambos retos desde el punto de vista tecnol gico y multimedia con dos objetivos: lograr velocidad y ampliar el volumen de sus transmisiones en todos los formatos.
As , a comienzos de la d cada de los a os 80 llegaron las primeras computadoras, que sustituyeron paulatinamente a las perforadoras de teletipos, y la agencia integr sus bases de datos en 1992 en un servicio que, hasta la aparici n de Google, era la mayor fuente de almacenamiento de documentos y noticias en espa ol del mundo.
Es en estas d cadas cuando EFE inici sus primeros servicios radiof nicos (1980), abri corresponsal as de televisi n en Espa a y otros pa ses (1982) y cre el primer estudio televisivo. El sat lite es un instrumento vital para transmitir noticias y las antenas se distribuyen por todo el mundo e incluso llegan a la Ant rtida.
Multimedia approach and new headquarters
EFE est impulsado ahora sus contenidos multimedia, distribuyendo anualmente 90.000 informaciones en todos los formatos en espa ol, ingl s y portugu s.
Jos Antonio Vera, presidente de EFE, admite que las agencias est n plantando la batalla en el mbito audiovisual. Nuestra competencia, France Presse y AP hicieron un gran esfuerzo en renovaci n tecnol gica. Nosotros, por desgracia, no pudimos hacerlo pero lo vamos a hacer .
Para hacer frente a estos nuevos retos, EFE inaugurar a comienzos de febrero una nueva sede ubicada en un edificio de 18 plantas en la avenida de Burgos en Madrid.
Este edificio de 18 plantas, de las que la Efe ocupar las 15 primeras, tiene una superficie de alrededor de 11.000 metros cuadrados, m s un local en la planta baja donde se han instalado los estudios de televisi n; fue construido en 1988 y reformado en el 2010. La nueva sede vendr as a sustituir a sustituir a la ya m tica de la calle Espronceda, donde la agencia ha permanecido los ltimos 36 a os.
El nuevo edificio es propiedad de SEPIDES, empresa que forma parte de la SEPI, accionista nico, a su vez, de la agencia EFE.
