Popular actor Thabo Mkhabela, who plays Leshole Mabitsela in Skeem Saam reveals that the 50/50 concept has always been there and his character respects his partner Kgothatso who's an independent woman.

THABO MKHABELA: THE 50/50 CONCEPT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE' The actor Thabo Mkhabela, who returned to Skeem Saam this season as Leshole and had viewers debating about the 50/50 concept when his character made his date Kgothatso pay on their first date.

Mkhabela's stingy' character had social media buzzing all week with some viewers inviting him to this year's man's conference.

Leshole divided Skeem Saam viewers with the 50/50 concept as he's the asked who asked Kgothatso out to dinner.

The actor now tells Sunday World that what his character did open up a debate on how couples ought to share financial responsibilities.

I think what Leshole did has always been there. We have had people complaining about the 50/50 concept, he said.

To Leshole, who has an independent woman, this meant that she wouldn't mind paying for her food, and no it was not about the money but goodwill.

PLAYING LESHOLE IN SKEEM SAAM' Mkhabela also made headlines when his on-screen father Charles Maja, who played Big Boy Mabitsela passed away in 2020.

The actor also tells the publication that his passing was very hard for him as they shared a special bond on and off-screen.

We would discuss everything and being with him I learned a lot, and I hope wherever he is he is proud of how far I have come with the character.

He also reveals that playing a character has its challenges and he draws inspiration from other people's situations around him.

He took a break from the educational soapie at the end of season nine when his character joined the army to fulfill his dream job of being a pilot.

I joined Skeem Saam after I finished my degree, and I must say performance- wise I have grown, and it has been amazing to experience, said Mkhabela.

I did not leave the soapie. I have been working behind the scenes as a casting director, and I was grateful to have been given that opportunity, he said.

It is breathtaking because I actually go find the people who fit the character or role written on the script.

Mkhabela adds that viewers can expect to see a nice storyline with a lot of twists.

Whether he is going to have better luck this time in life will be revealed as time progresses, he said.
