It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. What a profound truth! A realization that eases the grip of life on man - surrendering to God in all things. Partake in this feast as we consume food for the soul, nourishing the spirit in Breaking Bread. It is Monday, 27th February 2023.

The main question is how can Psalm 20 help us to become battle ready ?

It is unlikely that we will face today the same battle conditions that ancient Israel faced. Psalm 20 was written by David as a prayer before he went into battle. Psalm 20 speaks to the reality of our lives because life is a battle. We are drawn into various kinds of battles in life. For the christian life and ministry, we are in a constant battle with the rulers of darkness in this world (read Ephesians 10-12). Raising our children, paying our bills, maintaining faithful marriages and much more can be great battles in our day to day lives.

Psalm 20 reminds us that we are in a spiritual battle and that we should grow in our understanding of the weapons of our warfare. We should develop our faith through Jesus Christ to become our safety and refuge in times of trouble.

Worship and warfare belong together. It is a necessity to put worship and devotion in the center of our lives. If we want the Lord to rescue us during times of trouble, we must call upon His name. This becomes easier if we are already in a good relationship with our Father.

We need each other during these times of battles. We need each other's faithfulness, faith, prayer and blessing during these times. It is therefore very important to have corporate gatherings, and we must always remember that praying together is very crucial.

We must remember that Jesus is our King and he has gone into the battle on our behalf. Jesus will always win a decisive victory.

We are still facing our daily battles, but remember He is with us and if we move forward in His name, victory is assured.

What Psalm 20 teaches us, is that we should put all our trust in God rather than human power such as military might: Psalm 20:7: Some take pride in chariots and some in horses, but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God''. We can so easily have false faith in human power because of financial interests or challenges. But stay strong in faith and trust God with all that we have.

David teaches us in this Psalm to have confidence in God. He taught us to trust in something more potent and reliable than human armies.

God can help us without any means. God can also work through means like the church, meetings, the internet and other means. But the question is: Do we focus on what we do or do we focus on what God can do?

PRAYER Thank You Lord that we can put all our trust in you. Thank You that we rely on You and not on the powers of this world. Help us to put You totally in control of our lives. Amen.

Psalm20 is n gebed in die tempel deur Dawid voordat hy in n oorlog betrokke raak. Hier word ons geleer hoe om gebedsvoorbereiding te doen. Ons kan hierdie Psalm vandag gebruik in enige situasie waar ons lewe bedreig word of waar die evangelie bedreig word.

Hierdie Psalm is n gebed om oorwinning en is sterk verbind tot God. Met ander woorde dit is n oorwinning wat net deur God bewerkstellig moet word. God se naam word in die Psalm dus gebruik as beroep op Sy beskerming en om die vertroue uit te spreek dat God Sy beloftes sal gestand doen.

Ons moet sorg dat ons onberispelik lewe en dat ons versadig is met die Woord van God. Dit is die enigste manier om vas te staan vir die oorwinning wat God ons sal bring. Dit is nie nodig vir ons as gelowiges om enige stryd te verloor nie. Dit is die kernboodskap van Psalm 20. Deur die Heilige Gees sal God ons behoed en bewaar.

Ons as gelowiges het konflikte selfs oorloe. As ons nie deel van Christus se span was nie, sou hierdie konflikte en stryde glad nie bestaan het nie. Ons beleef dit juis omdat ons deel van Sy span is. Dikwels bevind ons as gelowiges ons in direkte konflik met demoniese magte, veral in die vorm van versoekings of gedagtes. Dit kan ons as gelowiges somtyds laat voel asof ons op n slagveld is.

Psalm 20 leer ons om ten alle tye as oorwinnaars uit die stryd te tree. Daar is egter sekere beginsels wat ons moet toepas, naamlik:

Begin by gebed: Tree in gebed in enige oorlogsituasie waar jy die druk van die wereld ervaar (Psalm 20:1-5).

Gebed lei tot dapperheid en moed: Gebed gee ons moed om uit te staan vir die Here. Die moed om nee te se in versoekingsituasies (Psalm 20:6).

Moed lei tot sekerheid: Ons kan geweldige veldslae ingaan en seker wees van die uitkoms want God is ons voorloper (Psalm 20:7).

Sekerheid lei tot oortuiging: Ons fokus moet wees op die naam van die Here en nie op die wereld nie. Ons moet oortuig wees dat die naam van die Here groter is as die van die wereld (Psalm 20:8-9)

Ons kan met Christus meer as oorwinnaars wees binne enige soort veldslag. Ons oorwinning is reeds in die opstanding van Christus behaal.

GEBED Dankie Vader dat ons enige oorwinning kan behaal met U in ons span. Dankie dat U eintlik reeds die oorwinning namens ons behaal het met u opstanding. Leer ons o Vader om U ten alle tye in ons planne te ken sodat ons soos n Dawid as oorwinnaars uit die stryd kan tree. Amen.
