Talk us through an average day in your role.
With operational studio facilities in London, Dublin, Paris, and Istanbul, my day-to-day is rarely typical. The capacity of these facilities differs significantly, with Dublin boasting a single studio, while Istanbul is equipped with eight. This means that I find myself spending a substantial amount of time in Istanbul.
My day invariably starts with a cup of coffee, followed by a brief email session addressing any urgent matters from my residence or hotel. Then, at the facility, our team congregates for a morning meeting to discuss any pressing issues, be they related to a client, the facility's operations, or an ongoing project. Side meetings often ensue, diving deeper into the subjects broached in the main meeting or exploring new opportunities.
I maintain a policy to hold off on calls until post-11:00 hrs. This gives me ample time to concentrate on internal affairs and promptly address any concerns. Post this quiet period, I engage in calls for an hour or two before my lunch break.
The afternoon typically sees me collaborating with my PA, reviewing my schedule, organising future meetings, and liaising with clients. I also make it a point to interact with facility staff, managers, and clients personally. The day generally wraps up with discussions involving our accountant, the facility manager, or our sales and marketing manager, after which I head out for dinner.
How did you embark on your journey in the media industry?**
My extensive 25-year background in IT solutions, spanning clients across Europe and Africa, allowed me a seamless transition into the media industry. As IT and Broadcast Engineering began to converge, it presented the perfect avenue to utilise my expertise and simultaneously venture into new, challenging terrains.
Could you detail the training you underwent before diving into this industry?
I have dedicated over two and a half decades to delivering state-of-the-art IT solutions across all continents. My expertise covers data communication, network establishment, and the execution of avant-garde technologies, such as HSIA, pay TV, VoD, and InRoom solutions.
In terms of formal education, I possess an MSc in Cyber Security coupled with a PRINCE2 certification in project management. This academic foundation ensures I maintain the highest standards in security, quality, and efficiency in all my ventures. I'm driven by the latest technological advancements and am committed to harnessing them to spur business growth and enhance consumer experiences. Over the years, I've cultivated a reputation for consistently exceeding expectations and delivering unmatched results.
What aspects of the industry do you find most rewarding?
The media industry resonates with my core competencies: IT, cyber security, and project management. Project management, especially, holds a special place for me, having helmed numerous successful initiatives over the years.
One of the most fulfilling aspects is the privilege of building and fortifying relationships with vendors, suppliers, and partners. The extensive experience I've amassed over the years equips me to make valuable contributions, and I pride myself on my relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence.
What advice would you proffer to someone contemplating a role akin to yours?
Tread with caution. While the role can be incredibly rewarding, it's also challenging and demands a specific set of skills and resilience.
