Senior Scientist John Nieto of Harris RF Communications Receives Prestigious Fellow Award

MELBOURNE, FL/ROCHESTER, NY, March 14, 2014 John Nieto, a senior scientist with Harris Corporations RF Communications segment, has been named the 2014 recipient of the Harris Fellow Award, the companys highest recognition for engineering achievement. Nieto was honored at the companys annual Fellows Banquet in Melbourne, Florida. Nieto, one of 6,000 engineers and scientists at Harris, was recognized for his application of communication and coding theory. His inventions and implementations have been instrumental to the companys renowned Falcon family of radios, which are fielded by all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as ministries of defense in more than 100 countries. John exemplifies the excellence in engineering and technology that drives the success of Harris RF Communications, said Dana Mehnert, group president, Harris RF Communications. While he is particularly well-known for his work in the HF radio band, Johns contributions and those of his team extend across the frequency spectrum. He has dedicated himself to advancing tactical voice and data communications and serves an outstanding leader and mentor. Nieto is an inventor or co-inventor of more than 50 Harris patents and has authored or co-authored many technical papers and presentations. He also is a co-author of the book, Third Generation and Wideband HF Radio Communications. Nieto has contributed to the development of innovative signal processing solutions for communication systems including equalization, forward-error correction coding and iterative demodulation and decoding techniques in Harris narrowband and wideband products. Nietos technical skill, enthusiasm and problem solving are recognized nationally and internationally through his contributions at technical conferences, symposia and U.S. and NATO technical working groups.
