Rails Girls Seminar, a First in Slovenia Ljubljana, 21 November In December Ljubljana will hold its first seminar in the international Rails Girls concept and community. This organization organizes free workshops around the world, dedicated to encouraging woman to enter the world of programming and co-creating the internet. This is the first time they will be holding a seminar in Slovenia. The Rails Girls Ljubljana seminar will be held on 14 and 15 December at Vojkova 78 with the support of Telekom Slovenije and experts from the TSstartup business accelerator.

Rails Girls is a worldwide organization and concept of educating and training women to use basic technological tools independently, to help make their ideas come to life online, while giving them a great foot in the door for an entrepreneurial career. The first Rail Girls seminar was held in 2010 in Finland and the concept has quickly spread to all corners of the globe. Rails Girls seminars are held in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, as the primary purpose is to get participants excited about the use of online technology. Things are therefore explained in a simple and interesting way. Rails Girls seminars in individual countries are run by local volunteers. In Slovenia they are organized by Rails Girls Ljubljana, fans of software development, technology, and the world wide web. The seminar will be held on Telekom Slovenije's premises at Vojkova 78, and experts from the TSstartup business accelerator will also be there to offer support. In addition to Telekom Slovenije, Rails Girls Ljubljana also received support from Infinum and Zemanta, as well as other locally established software companies, startups, and individuals.

The Rails Girls Ljubljana seminar will start on Friday 14 December, with the first meetings between participants and their mentors, when the so-called Installation Party will be held. The first day all the required software will be installed on the participants' laptops, which will also present a good opportunity for getting to know one another. On Saturday, 15 December, the participants will split into groups under their mentors and make their first web application. To liven things up we will also have some short, practical lectures on software development, design, and how the internet works, as well as the story of one of our successful developerettes. The goal of Rails Girls Ljubljana is to introduce women to the basics of how the internet and web applications work, while giving them the basics of software development and providing a network for making connections and entering the local development and startup community.

Participation in Rails Girls Ljubljana is free of charge, there is no prerequisite prior knowledge, and there are no age limits. The only thing limited is the number of seats. Applications will be accepted until 7 December at railsgirls.com/ljubljana, where you can also find event details. Interest in Rails Girls Ljubljana has been huge, as over 300 women have applied.
