SoCal Rentals (Burbank, CA) recently invested in an additional four Panasonic AK-HC3800 HD studio cameras, bringing its total to 20 units. The company also purchased a pair of VariCam 35 4K Super 35mm camera/recorders, and added AW-HE40 integrated full HD pan/tilt/zoom cameras to its extensive Panasonic PTZ inventory.
According to CEO Eric Broderson, SoCal Rentals has witnessed the growing popularity of the HC3800 in both the broadcast and A/V markets. This is round three of our HC3800 purchases; the camera has been a winner for us on projects ranging from major network broadcast shows to tons of events and festivals.
Features like the HC3800's 23.98 recording support and its internal 2X digital extender originally convinced us that the camera was a solid performer, which has been confirmed by increased customer demand, he continued. The HC3800 is very reliable, easy to ship, rugged beyond belief and stable in the rental market.
He noted that the most recent purchase of HC3800s included AK-MSU935 master control set-ups for the company's custom camera flypacks, and for broadcast video control and studios that require this option.
Broderson said that SoCal Rentals bought the two VariCam 35s specifically for a two-year deal on a network television show and he is hoping to expand this inventory over the next year.
With the addition of the HE40 cameras, the company now has more than 50 Panasonic PTZs available for its clientele. We like the HE40's small size, its Power over Ethernet , which saves a lot of time and energy in set-up; and its IR Night Mode, which is terrific for reality shows and hidden' camera commercials, Broderson said. We are also excited to be adding in the future the new Panasonic AW-UE70W 4K PTZ for the ever-growing 4K market and demands.

About the AK-HC3800
The AK-HC3800 is an HD studio camera equipped with three high-sensitivity, high-quality 2/3-type 2.2-megapixel CCDs, a high-precision 16 bit A/D image processing circuit, and the latest generation 38-bit Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Compact and lightweight at only 8 lbs, it offers chromatic aberration compensation (CAC), scene file settings, and a sophisticated implementation of Panasonic's exclusive dynamic range stretch (DRS). The HC3800 achieves a high sensitivity of F11 at 59.94Hz (2,000 lx) and an S/N ratio of 60dB and supports variety of HD and SD formats includes 1080/23.98P.
About the VariCam 35
Panasonic's VariCam 35 is an unparalleled tool for high-end filmmaking, commercials and episodic production as well as live 4K events. The camera provides superb image handling in multiple formats ranging from pristine 4K RAW to more practical 4K, UHD, 2K, HD and HD ProRes capture. Several assets set the VariCam 35 apart from other high-end cinematography cameras, including dual native ISOs of 800 and 5000, allowing DPs to realize incredible image quality in extremely low light situations; its ability to record three simultaneous video formats (4K 2K Proxy, or UHD HD Proxy); an optional high-speed 4K uncompressed RAW recorder (CODEX) that will capture uncompressed 4K VariCam RAW (V-RAW) at up to 120fps; internal AVC-Intra 4K / 2K / HD recording to 120fps; support for an ACES workflow for full fidelity mastering of original source material; and in-camera Color-Grading via CDLs / 3D LUTs.

The HE40 is available in two versions, the AW-HE40H with HDMI output, and the AW-HE40S with HD-SDI output. The cameras are designed to produce great results in a variety of applications that require high-quality video and precise control-such as remote production, conference video, event capture, staging, distance learning, and HOW. Thanks to a precision 30X optical zoom lens, 1000 TV lines of horizontal resolution, smooth PTZ functions, and exceptional image quality, HE40 cameras are ideal for demanding recording, streaming, and IMAG use. With IP-Preview transmission and control, and support for PoE , the HE40 offers the flexibility needed for cost-effective installation and easy management. The recent AW-SFU01 upgrade adds production-quality HD MPEG-4 streaming, in-camera HD recording on a microSD card, and USB video/audio capabilities to the HE40's impressive range of features.
