Specialist Final Controller

Efficient & effective ingest of short-form material, preparation and play-out of final broadcast material and transmission schedules as per customer request in order to support successful Broadcast Facilities operation

The preparation of all broadcast material, with the exception of live material, ensuring the correct sequence and availability of material, aligned to schedule

Effective and accurate clipping of tapes, ensuring each section of a programme starts and ends at the correct time code

Effective and efficient dubbing of short form and promotional materials on to the server, to ensure availability for broadcast

Edit the newly downloaded transmission schedules in order to rectify discrepancies and faults

Efficient and effective preparation, transfer and dubbing of advertisements on to the server for broadcast

Correcting advertising material on request, to ensure quality and optimal delivery on client needs and requirements

Conduct standard, formal checks, in order to check the optimal functioning of equipment

Ensure compliance of all activities to SABC's policies and procedures

Mentoring and coaching of junior controllers.

Continual, effective liaison with MCR, Sport, News/CA producers and live broadcasters, in order to optimally synchronise the live broadcast

Plan and ensure the optimal utilisation of equipment, in order to enhance the quality of live broadcast

Effective and efficient undertaking of day-to-day administration, reporting and distribution of information to ensure smooth operations and informed staff

Adherence to and knowledge of emergency procedures, to be implemented in the event of equipment failure

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Grade 12

Computer literacy

8 years operations experience in automated TV broadcasting environment.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of Broadcast Media/Video server environment.

UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS

Understanding and application of broadcast and production television fundamentals including analogue and digital

Knowledge and understanding of flow diagrams file formats and broadcast standards.

Good understanding of broadcast workflows in-order to provide operational advice to clients and junior colleagues.

Required to develop and compile SOPs.

Ready and prepared to assist with management functions when required.

Ability to work shifts and long hours

Team player

Extensive knowledge of the broadcast environmentin-order to provide inputs in the design and layout of FCC facilities.

Good communications skills

Physical attributes: Excellent hearing and eyesight (no colour blindness).
