GoPro Celebrates Success of Olympians in Sochi

Team GoPro Brings Home Six Medals, Including Sage Kotsenburg's History-Making Gold in Snowboard Slopestyle

SAN MATEO, CA (March 7, 2014)- GoPro is proud to celebrate and congratulate its 12 athletes who participated in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. GoPro athletes were at the center of the action throughout the games, earning six medals for the United States including four gold, one silver and one bronze. Team GoPro was comprised ofSage Kotsenburg, Torstein Horgmo, Iouri Podladtchikov, Ayumu Hirano, Shaun White, Jamie Anderson, Hannah Teter, Bobby Brown, Kaya Turski, Ted Ligety, Julia Mancuso and Nate Holland competing in events including ski and snowboard halfpipe, ski and snowboard slopestyle, snowboard boardercross, and the giant slalom, downhill, super-G and super combined events in alpine ski.

History was made when GoPro athlete Sage Kotsenburg won the first ever-Olympic gold medal in the games' inaugural snowboard slopestyle competition. The win also made Kotsenburg the first gold medal winner in Sochi, the first U.S. athlete to win an Olympic medal on Russian soil, and the first gold medalist for Team GoPro. Fellow USSA teammate Jamie Anderson also clinched gold in the first Olympic women's snowboard slopestyle event in Sochi.

Just as Team USA shined during the snowboard slopestyle event, international talent dominated the men's snowboard halfpipe competition. Russian born Swiss rider Iouri Podladtchikov won gold in the event, earning the medal after years of being a standout competitor in the sport. 15-year-old Japanese snowboard sensation Ayumu Hirano was named the youngest-ever World Snowboard Tour Halfpipe Champion in 2012/13 and stepped up to the plate at the Sochi Games, adding the title of Olympic-silver-medalist to his list of accolades.

Alpine skiers Ted Ligety and Julia Mancuso used GoPros to train for their spot on the Olympic Team, as did many fellow GoPro athletes. Ligety dominated the giant slalom race in Sochi, earing him the second gold medal of his career and making him the first American male to win two Olympic gold medals in Alpine skiing.Squaw Valley native Julia Mancuso is the most decorated Olympic female alpine skier. The 2014 Games solidified her ranking on the alpine skiing circuit, clinching a bronze medal in the women's super combined event in Sochi.
