TVT Power Rankings: Unique Drone Uses

Drones are one of the most interesting pieces of technology to hit the industry in recent years. They have the potential to offer a range of opportunities to broadcasters, and if some of the things drone users have come up with so far is any indication, the sky is literally the limit. From offering unique perspectives of natural wonders to delivering packages, drones have proven to have a wide variety of uses, but here are some of the best we've seen thus far.

5. Drone Sports

Drones have already proven how useful they can be in covering sports, but who knew that they could become their own sport? The Aerial Sports League was created by Marque Cornblatt and has chapters in a number of cities across the U.S. and even some abroad. Made up of inventors, engineers and action sport junkies, ASL promotes drone sports and education. Drone sports include drone racing, but more interestingly, drone combat, where two drones enter and only one comes out. Check out footage below from ASL.

4. Drone Romantics

Romance is a big part of any relationship, and what better way to show your love then to have a drone hover mistletoe over you and your significant other during the holidays, or to soar in during a proposal to deliver the ring? Of course, as this groom found out, there are still a few logistics that can be worked out, but at the least it guaranteed them a special memory from their special day.

3. Spying on Star Wars'

Ever since Disney and LucasFilm announced they were making new Star Wars films, the anticipation for Episode VII has been feverish. So much so that when Drone owner Justin Reeves discovered the top secret set in Berkshire, England, he just couldn't help himself but to take a look. He ended up capturing footage of a partially built Millennium Falcon, which you can see in the upper right corner of the video.

2. Volcano Chasing

Capturing footage of severe weather like tornadoes has been a popular use for drones, but Good Morning America raised the bar when they set a drone to Iceland to broadcast live footage of an active Volcano. Technicians had to fit drones to handle the intense heat of the volcanos, but what they captured was absolutely spectacular. Find out more about how GMA pulled off the story here.
