Twilio acquires the Spanish technology Kurento WebRTC Media Server Developed by the team Spanish that is behind the renowned project Kurento Open Source, this acquisition will allow offer APIs in the cloud to build applications of video advanced.
Twilio, company American specialized in platforms of communication based in the cloud, has arrived to an agreement final to acquire the technologies of processing of media WebRTC, developed by the team Spanish that is behind the famous project Kurento Open Source. This transaction is completed, this team will join Twilio to lead the integration of new technologies and allow the development of videos in web and mobile applications.
In the months after the closing of the transaction, the capabilities of the server of Kurento media, which include communication, transcoding, recording will integrate and advanced processing of media, a programmable video of Twilio, a tool that helps developers integrate videos into applications. These new capabilities will allow developers to address more advanced needs of consumer video applications to large-scale and enterprise as well as applications of next-generation video, such as those related to augmented reality, robotics, artificial vision and Internet of things.
To date, the adoption of visual communication has been limited largely to conferences and face-to-face applications systems for consumers. This is because the advanced uses of videos that require real-time media processing have been out of reach of mobile and web developers. While the standard WebRTC equips developers with a technology client-side (client-side) to add videos, media server infrastructure is expensive and requires you to implement specific technical knowledge. The implementation of the advanced technology of the media WebRTC the Twilio Video platform server will change this to allow API access to media in real-time processing. The developers soon will have the capacity of analyze, transform, increase and store sequences of audio and video to reinforce various applications of video.

Tikal Tecnologies, the company that originally developed the Kurento, keep the Kurento Open Source project and will be responsible for the management of the contributions by the community of Kurento. Twilio will work directly together with Tikal to maintain and improve the project. This means stabilizing the functionality central of Kurento, improve the compatibility with them important browsers compatible with WebRTC and receive directly the feedback of the community of Kurento. Twilio is intended to ensure that the Kurento Open Source project is a stable base for future media processing applications.
Presence in Spain
In addition, Twilio also announces the scheduled opening of the office in Madrid, which is the seat of the Kurento team. The opening of the office of Twilio in Spain will be one step further to meet the global needs of Twilio customers. The Madrid Office will join Twilio San Francisco headquarters and its network of offices in Bogot , Dublin, Hong Kong, London, Mountain View, Munich, New York, Singapore and Tallinn.
