Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and Masterchef Sou Africa nominated for International Emmy Awards

The nominees for the 41st International Emmy Awards span 19 countries across nine categories, with winners to be announced at a ceremony on November 25.

The 36 nominees hail from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, New Zealand, the Philippines, the U.K. and first time contenders Angola and Uruguay.

Every year, the global television community competes for an Emmy, the most prestigious of all media awards, and we congratulate the 2013 nominees for their outstanding programs and performances, said Bruce L. Paisner, the president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

In addition to the programming and performance categories, J.J. Abrams will be honored with the 2013 International Emmy Founders Award; and Anke Sch ferkordt, co-CEO of RTL Group and CEO of RTL Germany, the 2013 International Emmy Directorate Award.

For arts programming, nominees are Hello?! Orchestra (MBC, SAN Media, South Korea); Soundtrack (Geronimo BVBA, Belgium,); La M quina Loca/The Crazy Machine (TV UNAM, El Caiman Films, Alebrije, Mexico); and Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender (EMP, Mercury Songs co-production for Eagle Rock Entertainment, U.K.).

Best performance by an actor nods went to Shinichi Tsutsumi (In Yasu-A Single Father's Story, NHK, Japan); Sean Bean (Accused, RSJ Films, U.K.); Heino Ferch (Anatomy of Revenge, ZDF, ARTE, Aichholzer Filmproduktion, Vienna, ORF, Germany); and Marcos Palmeira (Mandrake Especial, HBO Latin America Originals, Goritzia Filmes, Brazil). For actress, the nominees are Li Sun (The Back Palace: Legend of Zhen Huan, Dongyang Flower Film TV Culture, Beijing TV Art Center, SMG Picture, Beijing Star Galaxy Film TV Culture Communication, China); Sheridan Smith (Mrs Biggs, ITV Studios, December Media, U.K.); Lotta Tejle (30 Degrees in February, SVT, Fundament Film, Sweden); and Fernanda Montenegro (Sweet Mother, TV Globo, Brazil).

The comedy nominees are Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola (eNCA/e News Channel Africa, Diprente, South Africa); Moone Boy (Baby Cow Productions, Grand Pictures, Sprout Pictures, Hot Cod Productions, Sky 1 HD, U.K.); Workingirls (Gazelle et Cie, Canal Plus, France); and How to Enjoy the End of the World (TV Globo, Brazil).

Up for best documentary are The Golden Hour (Desert Road, TVNZ, New Zealand); My Mother, Lady Bondong (MBC, South Korea); 5 Broken Cameras (Alegria Productions, Guy DVD Films, Burnat Films Palestine, France T l visions, France); and 5 de Mayo, Un Dia de Gloria (Discovery Channel Latin America, Cactus Films, Mexico).

The drama nominees are Maalaala Mo Kaya (ABS-CBN, the Philippines); Les Revenants/Rebound (Haut et Court TV, Canal+ Original Programming, France); Next in Line (TV Globo, Brazil); and Accused (RSJ Films, U.K.)

In the non-scripted entertainment categories, nominees are Go Back to Where You Came From (SBS Television Australia, Cordell Jigsaw Productions, Australia); MasterChef South Africa (Quizzical Pictures, Lucky Bean Media, South Africa); Dear Neighbors Help Our Daughter Find Love (Keshet Broadcasting, Keshet International, Fuchsia Productions, Israel) and Reto al Chef 2 (Foxtelecolombia, Colombia).

The telenovelas in consideration are Windeck (Semba Comunica o, Angola); 30 vies/30 lives (Aetios Productions, Canada); Brasil Avenue (TV Globo, Brazil); and Side by Side (TV Globo, Brazil).

In the TV-movie/mini-series category, titles in the running are DramaW Mini-Series: Heavens Ark (WOWOW INC., FINE Entertainment, Japan); Secret State (Company Television, Newscope Films, U.K.); SOMOS - Cad ver se necesita (AGADU, Canal 10, Uruguay); and A Day for a Miracle (Rowboat Film, ZDF, Germany).
