Oslo, Norway, 10th September 2014 - Appear TV (IBC stand 1.C61), a leading global provider of next-generation video processing platforms for broadcast and IP television, today announced the launch of its High VQ (Video Quality) Encoder at IBC 2014. The latest encoder for its XC5000 Series Platform delivers robust compression with industry-leading video quality to provide content and network operators with an integrated compression platform for the distribution of live broadcast, OTT and multiscreen content.
The new Appear TV High VQ Encoder integrates with the Appear TV XC5000 Series Video processing solution to create a single platform that can generate all required profiles for each channel, eliminating the need for different encoding systems for the distribution of live TV over cable, IP, satellite, terrestrial, OTT and multiscreen.
The latest High VQ Encoder provides excellent channel density, a dual-pass compression process combined with exceptional rate decision coding algorithms to provide exceptional video quality for AVC and MPEG2 SD/HD, making it perfect for the primary distribution of live broadcast content where quality is the benchmark for Tier1 operators.
It supports multiple audio channel formats including multiple Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. To raise the benchmark for performance to a new standard, it can be packaged with the new statistical multiplexing software sporting a 2nd generation multipass look-ahead architecture with lightning fast refresh rate.
The launch of Appear TV's High VQ Encoder with industry-leading video quality is the perfect solution for primary distribution of broadcast content, said Carl Walter Holst, CEO of Appear TV. The increase in compression efficiency delivered by our new dual-pass encoding technology enables the Appear TV High VQ Encoder to provide operators with the highest possible picture quality where it matters most for primary distribution of broadcast TV. Additionally, the flexibility of our XC5000 chassis' enables Appear TV to provide a unified encoding platform for broadcast, OTT and multiscreen, reducing CAPEX, OPEX and complexity, to please operator CFOs and CTOs alike.
Content and network infrastructure providers can integrate the Appear TV High VQ Encoder in the Appear TV XC5000 chassis, which can host an exhaustive range of purpose built modules to handle reception and modulation for multiple carrier formats (ASI, DVB-C, DVB-S/S2, DVB-T/T2, IP) as well as descrambling, audio leveling, scrambling, multiplexing and exhaustive PSI/SI adaption and editing. The system is based on a completely agnostic, open architecture with open user interfaces that include industry standard protocols such as SOAP and XML, enabling it to work in conjunction with any installed system and making it a cost-efficient solution for all screen video and signal processing in a single integrated platform.
About Appear TV High VQ Broadcast encoding The Appear TV High VQ Broadcast compression solution has been developed to provide state of the art' video and audio encoding. Based on all-new hardware, the High VQ
Encoder combines the flexibility and programmability of a software solution with the clear
efficiency and performance benefits that only hardware provides. The immense
computational power of this platform enables it to handle new and highly evolved Appear
TV encoding algorithms, boosting performance to the limits for both AVC and MPEG-2. The
solution features enhanced audio processing capacity that can handle multiple audio
channels including multiple Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus channels. Complementing
the algorithmic improvements is an all new statistical multiplexing system sporting a 2nd
generation dual-pass look-ahead' architecture with lightning fast refresh rate.
