Documentary On One continues its winning streak RT is delighted to announce that RT Radio 1 Documentary On One has won two more awards in the last week. In Missouri Documentary On One: Saudi Dreams of a Camper Van won a 2016 Clarion award for best Radio Feature Story' and is proud to be the only winner from outside the United States. In London, Dan Kearney, won both a City and Guilds Global Gold Medal of Excellence and the highly coveted Learner of the Year Award' at the City and Guilds Global 2016 Lion awards. His winning portfolio submission included his first radio documentary, Documentary On One: Once Were Champions.
Documentary On One: Saudi Dreams of a Camper Van, which was produced by Gr inne McPolin and Ronan Kelly, tells the story of Gr inne, a Tralee woman, who began recording her life in Saudi Arabia as a nurse in 2013. Broadcast on RT Radio 1 in October 2015, Gr inne s story is not just an insight into life as an Irish emigrant but also about the difficulties in trying to find happiness and start life all over again in your 50's. Gr inne is a student of radio broadcasting at the Kerry ETB/Radio Kerry* training course.
The Clarion awards symbolise excellence in clear, concise communications and focus on media content for and about women. This year's competition drew entries from 24 US states and 3 countries. The Clarion Awards is a renowned competition in the United States recognising the best work from all communications fields.
Documentary On One: Once Were Champions, produced by Dan Kearney and Liam O'Brien, tells the story of Dan's local GAA team Castleisland Desmonds in Kerry winning their first and only All Ireland title. Dan Kearney, is also a 2015 graduate of the Kerry ETB/Radio Kerry training course. The City and Guilds has approximately 2 million learners working towards a qualification each year, so for Dan Kearney to individually come out on top with the Learner of the Year award, is a phenomenal achievement. He s only the second ever Irish person to do so.
