WRAL-TV and CBC Sports Radio are your headquarters for the NCAA basketball tournaments. Capcom checked in with WRAL-TV Director of News Operations, Sports & Special Projects Leesa Moore in the midst of her scheduling, planning and juggling in the newsroom for the 2014 tournaments.
March Madness' pretty much sums up our newsroom this time of year, said Moore. With four local teams in the Big Dance, we have a full bounty of coverage opportunities.
She outlined the current travel plans for coverage in the first round:
WRAL-TV Sports Anchor Ken Medlin and WRAL-TV News Photographer Pete James headed to Orlando Thursday to cover NCSU after the team won their play-in game Wednesday night against Xavier.
WRAL-TV Sports Anchor Jeff Gravley, WRAL-TV Studio Broadcast Engineer Tony Gupton, WRAL.com Sports Multimedia Journalists Erin Summers and Jared Fialko flew out to San Antonio the same day for double coverage of UNC and NCCU.
WRAL-TV Sports Anchor Mandy Mitchell, WRAL-TV Anchor Michelle Marsh, and WRAL-TV News Photographer Robert Meikle cover Duke at PNC.
We're also covering the women's teams in Chapel Hill and Durham this weekend, said Moore. It's a madhouse of booking flights, getting credentials and hotel rooms, and figuring out how to get our coverage back and on-the-air all while juggling practice times, team avails, and time zone differences. But I venture to say no one does it better than WRAL. We're truly blessed to have such great basketball in our area. So all I can say is GO PACK GO HEELS GO BLUE DEVILS GO EAGLES!
CBC's Sports Radio Stations, 99.9 The Fan & 620 The Buzz will be getting in on the coverage as well. CBC Sports Radio will have co-hosts Adam Gold and Joe Ovies live from the Final Four in Dallas starting Friday, April 4th through Championship Monday. They're hoping to be reporting on at least one local team in the Final Four!
CBC Sports Radio will also feature whip arounds - going live to WRAL-TV reporters at various NCAA sites during the tourney.
