Listen to a New Song from Women in Music Award Winner Naty Hernandez

Last fall, Naty Hernandez B.M. 19 was beginning her final year as a Berklee student and completing a songwriting major. She wouldnt have to wait until graduating to prove her potential: that semester, she was named the 2018 recipient of the Women in Music (WIM) Award for the organizations Colombia chapter. The award provided Hernandez with the means to record some of her original songs over the past year, as well as giving her press support and performance opportunities.

The Colombian multi-instrumentalist also produced the song, backing it with a deep level of vision and craftsmanship befitting the aim of Women in Music. Based in New York, but with chapters internationally, WIM recently partnered with Berklee to deliver the first study in the U.S. exploring the socioeconomic landscape of women in the American music industry. The organization is dedicated to, according to its mission, fostering equality in the music industry through the support and advancement of women. Additionally, Hernandezs production team comprises mostly women, and Besar el Sol is the first of three songs the WIM award helped produce. Hernandez plans to keep recording songs for a debut EP to be released in 2020.
