Coming up on Carte Blanche, Sunday 21 October: How did the VBS scandal work? Well, we know that the scale of corruption at VBS is off the charts, but Carte Blanche will be going deeper and looking at how exactly the kingpins behind the looting were able to pull off such brazen robbery.

Danny Msiza the ANC Treasurer for Limpopo was reported to be the brains behind the operation, influencing municipalities to illegally deposit funds into VBS Bank.

VBS Mutual Bank Chairperson Tshifhiwa Matodzi allegedly received R325 million of the loot. CEO Andile Ramavhunga reportedly took R28.9 million for himself. Fellow high-ranking officials Robert Mandzonga and Phophi Mukhodobwane are also said to be guilty of pocketing R30m each.

Municipal debt and Eskom One municipality in Free State owes the energy firm R2.7bn. Maluti-A-Phofung home to Harrismith and Phuthaditjhaba is at risk of becoming a ghost town as Eskom threaten to shut off the power to the region.

Euthanasia laws in South Africa The matter is back in focus in South Africa following the arrest of euthanasia advocate Sean Davison on a charge of murder in September 2018. Davison was arrested for helping his terminally ill mother die in 2006.
