Actor and comedian Les Dennis is to join the cast of Coronation Street.
Les will start filming on Monday 27th January 2014 and will appear on screen in late March.
Les, currently touring in the Peter James play, A Perfect Murder, will play Michael Rogers, a petty criminal.
Exact storyline details are being kept under wraps, but Michael will find himself caught up in the lives of a family on the street after breaking into their house.
Les said: I am so thrilled to be joining the cast of Coronation Street. It has always been my favourite Television programme. Mixing high drama with some of the best comedy on screen.
Ive loved it since the beginning. I grew up watching all the amazing characters in the show . I now not only have the chance of meeting them, but also working with them. It doesnt get better than that.
Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn said: Les is a fantastic performer and a real coup for Corrie. I cant wait for him to join the team.
Biog:
This year Les stars on tour at major UK theatres in award winning writer Shaun McKenna's stage adaptation of best-selling author Peter James' novel The Perfect Murder. At Christmas 2013, Les guest starred in ITV's Midsomer Murders following a 15 week season at the Playhouse Theatre, London as King Arthur' in Spamalot . Les also finished joint runner-up in the 2013 Grand Final of the Celebrity Master Chef series screened, prime time on BBC One and subsequently made guest appearances in the MasterChef Masterclasses at the BBC Good Food Shows at Olympia and the NEC. He appeared in the Life's Too Short' Special, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for BBC 2. In 2012 Les played the eponymous role in Jigsy a new play by Tony Staveacre and directed by Hannah Chissick - at the Edinburgh Festival and in Bristol. He starred in Certified' with Christopher Timothy at the Curve Theatre, Leicester and in October that year Les took Jigsy' to The Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool, winning the Liverpool Post's Best Actor Award for his performance in the play.
