Ganando la guerra contra la pirater a Ian Mundford, Director of Media Solutions en Akamai, identifica en esta Tribuna varios requisitos urgentes para ayudar a la industria a librar la batalla contra la pirater a.

La pirater a en el sector del v deo no es un tema nuevo. Desde los albores de la producci n profesional de pel culas, ha habido gente dispuesta a hacer dinero r pido explotando la propiedad privada en forma de violaci n de los derechos de autor .

Fue en la d cada de 1980, con la llegada del VHS, cuando la pirater a se convirti en un negocio lucrativo que se pod a escalar. Con la expansi n de Internet y la evoluci n de las nuevas tecnolog as, la pirater a se ha vuelto cada vez m s sofisticada y organizada, desarrollando una mentalidad empresarial que se deriva del aprovechamiento de los avances comerciales y t cnicos.

Al igual que la tecnolog a de v deo digital leg tima se ha desarrollado en los ltimos a os para ofrecer mejores experiencias a los espectadores a trav s de Internet, tambi n lo ha hecho la pirater a. Los piratas de hoy en d a utilizan una variedad de vectores de ataque para adquirir y distribuir contenido. Por ejemplo, los grupos de distribuci n utilizan credenciales de empleados robadas para entrar en el almacenamiento digital, o incluso editar los sistemas, para adquirir contenido previo a su distribuci n.

La retransmisi n de un canal de televisi n lineal por Internet proporciona una experiencia que es casi imposible de distinguir de la retransmisi n por la televisi n tradicional. Es evidente que estamos s lo en los inicios de esta batalla contra los piratas y que tenemos mucho trabajo por delante si queremos ganarles la partida.

Un n mero cada vez mayor de distribuidores se est despertando ante esta amenaza, y muchos propietarios de derechos y operadores han establecido equipos dedicados a comprender la pirater a, evaluar su propia situaci n y aplicar las estrategias antipirater a pertinentes. Sin embargo, sin alguna forma de ubicuidad operativa y de coordinaci n en toda la industria junto con el apoyo de los gobiernos, los reguladores y los legisladores esta ser una lucha muy dif cil de ganar.

Ganando la batalla de la pirater a Hemos identificado varios requisitos urgentes, necesarios para ayudar a la industria a librar esta batalla contra los piratas. Entre ellos figuran la recopilaci n de datos coherentes sobre la pirater a para ayudar a los ejecutivos y a la industria en general a comprender la amenaza; la constante educaci n del p blico en general sobre las repercusiones m s amplias de la pirater a en los puestos de trabajo y la amenaza para las industrias nacionales; la cooperaci n entre los proveedores de servicios antipirater a para garantizar que las soluciones t cnicas puedan integrarse eficazmente; y, por ltimo, el liderazgo de los propietarios de derechos en todos los consejos de direcci n para impulsar la ubicuidad en toda la industria en la gesti n y distribuci n de los derechos.

La buena noticia es que la industria ha comenzado a armar gran parte de este rompecabezas. La Organizaci n de la Propiedad Intelectual de la Uni n Europea (EUIPO) est proporcionando datos claros sobre el alcance y el impacto de la pirater a en toda la UE, utilizando una metodolog a que podr a ser adoptada por otras regiones. Con una informaci n m s clara sobre las repercusiones de la pirater a, cabe esperar que se aplique una legislaci n m s estricta.

A nivel de los proveedores, las organizaciones est n examinando sus respectivos puntos fuertes y estableciendo claras colaboraciones de trabajo.

Un ejemplo reciente de esta colaboraci n ha sido la coalici n internacional, de la que forma parte la liga espa ola (LaLiga), que acab con grupos de pirater a que ofrec an miles de canales bajo demanda. En este caso, La Liga anunci que estaba cambiando la forma de proteger sus derechos, asumiendo la responsabilidad de los mismos.

Akamai tambi n est trabajando con las principales empresas de marcas de agua para asegurar que, una vez que se detecte a los piratas, sus actividades puedan ser detenidas inmediatamente. Adem s, podemos ofrecer a todas las organizaciones acceso a las tecnolog as m s relevantes para ayudar a asegurar sus operaciones y proteger el contenido. Por ltimo, estamos viendo signos de que los propietarios de los derechos de los medios de comunicaci n est n insistiendo en est ndares m nimos de protecci n de contenidos en todo el proceso de trabajo. Al unir todas estas piezas, finalmente podremos empezar a luchar contra los piratas.
