Fujifilm announces Student Awards 2014 winner
Fujifilm has announced the winner of its 2014 Student Awards. The winner is Manuel Fernandez of Burton and South Derbyshire College who wins the title of Fujifilm Student Photographer of the Year and a brilliant prize package courtesy of sponsors Metroprint, the online arm of Metro, the long-standing London pro-lab and Focal Press.
Manuel will be presented with £200 worth of film from Fujifilm, a professionally produced folio of prints, a one-to-one printing/consultancy session with one of Metroprint's (www.metro-print.co.uk) top printers and can select books worth £100 from Focal Press (www.focalpress.com).
Manuel's image is a double exposure of a building, building in the background with some clever ghosting.
Manuel said, "I am honoured to be the winner of the Fujifilm Student Awards and to be named the Fujifilm Student Photographer of the year, this is unexpected and such an achievement for me and my college."
This years Awards had an open brief, with students being briefed to let their imaginations run away with them and get their creative juices flowing.
Fujifilm received submissions from all UK students, not just students taking photography courses. All images entered must have been taken on Fujifilm film and submitted via www.fujifilmstudentawards.co.uk - entry was free and students could enter as many photographs as they wished.
Creative Director for Metroprint Steve Macleod made this comment about the winning image: "All done in camera and is exceedingly simple, clever and very nice."
Burton and South Derbyshire College was the source of the most entries in the Awards with 208 submissions. The Department will be presented with £200 worth of Fujifilm Professional film and can select books worth £500 for their college library.
Gabriel Da Costa from Fujifilm Professional commented on the Awards "The awards attract a variety of talent which makes judging a very difficult task. Manuel's image fits the brief and I am sure winning the awards will be the start of a fantastic career in photography for Manuel."
2014 marked the 29th year of these prestigious awards, making it the longest running student photography awards in the UK. The 30th anniversary in 2015 will be a special one, the 2015 awards will be open soon.
