Breaking Bread: David praises to God and is an example to us.God's way is unerring, the Lord's promise is tried and true; He is a shield for all who trust in him.

All things work for the good of those who love God

It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. What a profound truth! A realization that eases the grip of life on man - surrendering to God in all things. Partake in this feast as we consume food for the soul, nourishing the spirit in Breaking Bread. It is Monday, 20th February 2023.

In Psalm 18 David declared that God was his strength. God will never get tired from being strong for him. God was his rock, because with God he knew he was standing on solid ground. God was his fortress, because he knew that he was safe and secure in the presence of God.

David was not a perfect man but the pattern of his life was to honour and obey God. His intent was always to humble himself before God. God always shows mercy to those who are merciful, and those who are arrogant and proud can be expected to be ruined (Psalm 18:20-27).

Psalm 18 closes by summarising the themes already mentioned in all the other verses namely: God is the ultimate foundation of David's life, and all his successes. David will praise and celebrate God for all of this (Psalm 18: 46-50).

God brings security, stability and solidity to our lives. We should only have one response to the trustworthiness and faithfulness of God, and that response is trust. If we trust in the Lord, we will move further to praise and to have obedience and rightful fear. Job said in Job 13:15: Though he slay me, yet will I trust in Him''.

We must never underestimate the power of God that works in and through our lives. We will be amazed what God can accomplish through our lives and the impact that it will have on others. Do not try to impress other people with our own strength, agility and cleverness. We will just face disappointment. However if we seek God and His ways, He will bring us more than we ever hope for. Our hope should be in God. We should seek His power and glory and leave all of our issues to Him.

We must establish a pattern of reflection, praise and thanksgiving like David in Psalm 18. We must meditate upon the words of Psalm 18 and apply them to our lives on a daily basis. Remember His strength makes us strong. If we stay up to date with God, we will be prepared for everything.

PRAYER Thank You Lord, that You are our shield and our salvation. Thank You for being our rock and the One to whom we can take refuge. Thank You for being our stronghold. Thank You for taking hold of us and always drawing us out of deep waters. Amen.

God is sy hulp in nood

God luister en tree op

Verhouding met God

God is getrou

God is onvergelykbaar

Ons moet net soos David God loof vir Sy hulp in nood op n besondere wyse (Psalm 18:2-4). Ons moet Hom loof vir sy hulp in ons daaglikse dreigende omstandighede. God luister nie net na ons nie maar Hy verlos ons ook uit ons nood. Psalm 18 beskryf ook hoe ons verhouding met God moet wees. Ons moet die wil van God gehoorsaam en ons laat lei deur al Sy bepalinge. Ons moenie afwyk van Sy voorskrifte nie en op ons hoede wees teen enige ongeregtighede.

Ons moet onthou dat God getrou is vir almal wat Hom dien. Hy is getrou vir die getroues,opreg teen die opregtes, rein teenoor die reines. Maar Hy verwerp die huigelaars.

Ons moet ten alle tye daarvan bewus bly dat dit God is wat die oorwinning gee. Psalm 18 herdenk Dawid se oorwinning oor sy vyande, veral oor Saul, maar so kan ons ook daagliks God dank vir oorwinnings in ons lewe. W anneer ons op Hom vertrou sal Hy die nodige oorwinnings in ons lewe bewerkstellig op watter vlakke ookal. Want Hy is getrou tot in alle ewigheid. God roep ons almal op tot lof aan ons Skepper (Psalm 18:47-51).
