Film School is looking for a part-time Librarian on our Cape Town campus. The Librarian will contribute to improved teaching and learning through the effective management of the Resource Centre.
The Resource Centre provides staff and student access to online course material and documentation; books; DVDs; online journals and eBooks; and computer and printing facilities.
Key Duties:
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of a library catalogue; including E-Books.
Supervise and support the work of the full-time Assistant.
Assist students in accessing library resources and services.
Oversee day-to-day library operations and ensure library shifts for open hours.
Maintain discipline; library protocol and an academic atmosphere to stimulate research in the Research Centre.
Asset management of the Research Centre, including records of library loans, liaising with colleagues to maintain computers and access control systems, and taking stock of library assets.
Acquisitions.
Assist with data capturing on student feedback.
Assist on Open Days.
Reports to Line Manager on facilities, services and quarterly stock take.
Assist students in developing language, reading, writing and research skills.
Support students on research enquiries in the library.
Consult with students - when requested or identified as needed re: accessing e-journals, e-books, searching for relevant research material and readings, accessing learning. resources.
Requirements:
A National Diploma in Library and Information Sciences, a B-Tech degree, or equivalent.
A minimum of three years experience as a Librarian in a library serving at least 500 customers.
Computer literacy, and familiarity with library technology and software.
Ability to work in a team.
Salary: Negotiable, depending on level of experience
